Sabrina Carpenter: ‘Should we talk about how I got the mayor indicted?’

Because of this job, I try to keep up with general pop star gossip, even if I’m not engaged with stan wars or even a particular fan of a certain person’s music. But this Sabrina Carpenter situation is news to me – I truly never heard of any of this before. I’m sure it’s been a larger story in New York though. So, you know how NYC Mayor Eric Adams was just indicted for bribery & fraud and everything else? Well, this is what Sabrina Carpenter said during a weekend concert:

Sabrina Carpenter had a role in Eric Adams’ indictment? Well, it’s more complicated than that. It involved Sabrina filming a music video in a Brooklyn church, a longtime aide to Mayor Adams and a fired monsignor.

Sabrina Carpenter already stirred controversy last year when her “Feather” video — a bloody romp filmed in a Brooklyn Catholic church — led to the dismissal of Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello, who let her shoot the clip on location. But now, theories are kicking up that the melee surrounding the video has ties to the indictment of New York City mayor Eric Adams, and may have aided in kickstarting the probe. Carpenter herself acknowledged the speculation during her show at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night. “Damn, what now?” she said, looking out at the crowd. “Should we talk about how I got the mayor indicted, or…”

According to the New York Post, federal investigators subpoenaed the church in question last week regarding its relations between Adams’ close associate Gigantiello and the mayor’s ex-chief of staff, Frank Carone. The subpoena was allegedly linked to Carpenter’s “Feather” video, which has almost 100 million views on YouTube, and the church’s corruption regarding it. Church officials remained mum on the connection, giving a diplomatic answer as to whether or not Carpenter’s clip played any role in the investigation.

“It would be inappropriate to comment further on that review, which is still ongoing,” said diocese officials. “The Diocese is fully committed to cooperating with law enforcement in all investigations, including conduct at individual parishes or involving any priest.”

Carpenter addressed the controversy when it became a talking point last year, once the video for “Feather” was released in late October. The Diocese of Brooklyn said it was “appalled” with the “violent and sexually provocative” video filmed at the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, which led to a re-blessing of the establishment and a reprimanding of Gigantiello.

In the Adams indictment, the biggest headlines were about Turkey and the very obvious bribes taken by Adams. But Adams and his aides were ass-deep in Catholic Church corruption too? All over a Sabrina Carpenter music video? Damn. It sounds like someone started pulling at the string of how and why Sabrina got permission to film “Feathers” at the church (and she did get permission) and once investigators pulled on those strings, they saw that everything led back to the mayor’s office and the mayor’s aides. Interesting.

This is the first time I’ve watched the video… it’s cute? LMAO. I like how almost all of Sabrina’s songs are about how she’s hot and guys fight over her and she does whatever the hell she wants. Good for her, get the mayor indicted!

Is it just me or does she look a bit like 80s Madonna with her makeup like that?

  2. Smart&Messy says:

I’m probably too old for this. It’s very Madonna Barbie, and there is nothing new or creative about a woman with her ass out in a church. I’m not offended, I just find the whole video and song very unoriginal.

    • BeanieBean says:

Yeah, it’s very much Madonna Lite. I will say, that is the best mourning outfit I’ve ever seen.

  3. Christine says:

I know nothing about this woman, but the video is cute! I can’t stop laughing that any representative of the Catholic church signed off on this. They must be a Baby Monsignor, because no one with any remembrance of the outrage after Madonna’s ‘Like a Prayer’ video would be this stupid. Sabrina Carpenter even looks like a prettier young Madonna!

  4. Lucía says:

I love Sabrina’s music and general vibe. She’s a pop girly with a pretty cool sense of humour.

The video is genius. Not about guys fighting after her but all the micro aggressions and harassment that women go through daily and how she is getting revenge.
Like touching and being in your space, very subtle but real

It’s her singles as of late that are all “I’m Hot and Funny” . . . which she is. Emails I Can’t Send is about half love, half trauma and Short n Sweet is pretty similar in breakdown but the trauma there is romantic trauma.

Goodness! I’m spiritual but not religious – but even I had big eyes watching the end of this video. Why in the hell would anyone ever have permission to shoot something non-religious (ECC) on the altar? Case in point, I attended a classical concert in a church last December where a friend performed as a soloist. The pastor wanted pre-approval of all songs (think holiday and religious-themed) and he nixed “Hallelujah” because he said it was about masturbation! hahaha
