Are the Foo Fighters taking a break after the news of Dave Grohl’s baby?

A few weeks ago, Dave Grohl scandalized the gossip world when he casually dropped the news that he’d fathered a baby daughter outside of his 21-year marriage to Jordyn Blum. Although it was news to me, a lot of Foo Fighters fans weren’t surprised at all. I guess rumors of Dave’s extracurricular activities were out there to those who paid attention. I should have been paying better attention!

Before the news was announced, Dave retained a divorce lawyer, and it’s been reported that his wife has known about the baby “for a while.” Dave and Jordyn have three daughters of their own: Violet, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 10. The fallout that we know of included his daughters deactivating their social media accounts as the news was made public. Now, there’s more reported fallout of Dave’s baby drama. Rumor has it that the Foo Fighters will be taking a break. The band has already canceled an appearance at the Soundside Festival in Bridgeport, Connecticut and are reportedly going to go on “hiatus” as Dave works through his personal drama and processes the death of both his mom and drummer Taylor Hawkins who passed away from a drug overdose in July 2022.

THE FOO FIGHTERS are rumoured to be announcing a hiatus. It comes after frontman Dave Grohl revealed earlier this month that he has a secret love child and is fighting to save his 21-year marriage to model wife Jordyn Blum.

The rock band announced they had cancelled their appearance at this weekend’s Soundside Festival in Connecticut, US, with just days to go, and were replaced by Jack White.

A source said: “The band needs time to be with their families and focus on regrouping. It’s been a turbulent few years, with the loss of their best friend, drummer Taylor Hawkins, the death of Dave’s mum and now the birth of his new child. He wants to be at home and focus on earning back the trust of his family. Being on the road isn’t the best thing for any of them at the moment. It feels like a hiatus is the best thing for them collectively.”

His life was turned upside down when Taylor died unexpectedly in 2022. The drummer’s body was found in a hotel in Bogota, Colombia, where the group was due to play a music festival. The source added of Dave’s bond with Taylor: “The two were inseparable. It’s been a very dark period in his life.”

When I approached the band’s spokesman, he declined to comment. Nirvana drummer turned Foos frontman Dave, who has held the unofficial title of the “nicest man in rock” for decades, has been on hiatus with the Foos before — first in 2012 and then in 2016.

[From The Sun]

This seems like the most reasonable and best thing for Dave and the rest of the Foo Fighters to do. Any appearances or performances will surely bring unwanted extra attention to Dave’s messiness and that’s not good for any of them, especially his wife and young daughters. I don’t know what arrangement he and Jordyn have or don’t have, but a baby would be a dealbreaker to me. Like, wrap it up, dude, or get a vasectomy. Or, just don’t cheat in the first place. I also don’t want to discount what effect losing Taylor or his mom had on Dave’s mental health, but there were other options and choices he could have made to address those. He still made these choices that hurt his family and now, his band. I wish Jordyn and the girls healing and 50% of Dave’s assets.

I don’t know the tempo of the Foo Fighters tour schedule but most bands are on the road for weeks, away from home. Regardless of what happens with his marriage, I hope he’s prioritizing in personal time with his kids and family mediation/therapy appointments because they deserve the best of him. I don’t think this is to avoid interview questions, like TMZ is going to be shouting about his affair from the mosh pit.

When Dave Grohl announced his having fathered another child, he worded it as though having a kid just sort of overcame him. He also said he wanted to regain his family’s trust, but he hired a divorce lawyer at the same time. And now he’s understandably saying that he’s overwhelmed, but he’s blaming it on what happened to him instead of how he reacted to losing his loved ones.
He’s done a lot of good work, but he needs a better publicist at the very least. It sounds like he has difficulty taking responsibility for his own actions.

I don’t disagree at all, but also wanted to mention that the “divorce lawyer “ he hired is a family attorney and could have been hired to arrange for support and visitation with the new baby.

The one thing I’ll say is that I’ve seen plenty of people (not here, more like on twitter) equating Dave with men who have been accused of things such as domestic violence, s*xual abuse and r*pe. That’s just wrong, even if what he did was messed up. Which is why I think it’s fine for him to take some time off the road to get his shit together, make his ammends and properly grieve his losses.

You know, you lose a parent and a best friend within a year–yeah that’s really awful and I wouldn’t wish that kind of pain on anyone. But that pain does NOT give you license to punish and hurt your family. My fucking GOD bro, get therapy–not an affair with a (rumored) teenager.
I’m just so tired of broken men ruining the lives of others instead of getting the damn help they need. And I’m not blaming men entirely–this is a societal failure–but too often women end up being collateral damage.

I was wondering how long it would take before the ” my best friend died and my mother died” excuse would show up, it didn’t take long.

    • Jaded says:

I think it’s because they refuse to face up to being broken, they have to keep up this manly veneer of “I’m OK, nothing to see here” BS instead of getting help which they equate with being weak. I’ve known a few men like that in my time and infidelity was definitely a part of their acting out.

Taylor Hawkins was exhausted and wanted to get a break from touring.
    Dave said No.

Now bc Dave is in the glare of his own mistakes Now FF are taking a break.
    Get lost Dave you hypocrite.

    • Harla says:

I watched a documentary about the Foos and their touring schedule was relentless and grueling, Dave always wanted to be out touring regardless of how others felt. Pat Smears left the band when Dave cheated on his first wife, I wonder what the dynamic is now, between Dave and the other band members. I don’t imagine that any of them are happy with him and the fact that due to his behavior, their paychecks are in jeopardy.

  6. chatter says:

The next 2-4 years are going to show Dave just how badly he screwed up.
His ego is big enough that he’ll move on.
The trust issues with his daughters will be tough to over come.

He has enough $$ to try to control the PR but at his center he is a hypocrite, and a man-child.
Therapy before his stupid behavior would have prevented his blowing up his life.

“Kurts’ drummer.” There goes my Hero, those lyrics burn a bit now, no?

Bet his lawyer has the new baby/Mom on a huge NDA and out of sight. That was the reason for the lawyer ASAP, Dave getting some PR control.
