The Duchess of Sussex went outside! She hasn’t been seen in weeks – she skipped Kevin Costner’s charity concert benefiting first responders in the Santa Barbara area, and she did not accompany Harry on his two-week travel blitz which took him from New York to London to Lesotho to South Africa. Mama deserved a night out! Meghan attended the LA Children’s Hospital gala, alongside her dear friend Kelly Mckee Zajfen.
Meghan rewore her Carolina Herrera gown in a red taffeta. She wore this in 2021, to the Salute to Freedom gala in New York. In 2021, she wore it with a detachable train, and on Saturday, she just wore the slim-cut dress without the train. I’m still not crazy about the boob-darting of the dress, but overall, Meghan looked amazing. Meghan usually goes for such severe hairstyles, especially that center-part tight chignon (which I dislike immensely), so it feels like we’re seeing a completely different woman when she does loose, beachy waves. It suits her so much, it makes her look younger and, frankly, more glamorous.
The British media is always asking why Meghan and Harry aren’t attending the Emmys or the Oscars or whatever, but my question is: why aren’t they attending more charity events like this? They would be such huge hits on the LA charity circuit.

She looked fantastic. Like she stepped out of the ocean and right into her gown. She looks so happy and refreshed and I am so glad that she and Harry took a chance on themselves and left that salty-ass island behind.

Same here. But, most importantly – there is a lot of substance in whatever Meg does, so her outfits are secondary. For certain other duchess outfits are all there is.
she nursed 2 babies, so I’m guessing the bust is a bit generous now. I don’t like the bust on this dress at all but she looks so good in red.
I honestly thought it was a different dress from the same collection than when she wore it previously. I recognized the strange neckline though, I don’t think that kind of cut can actually fit anybody.

The only thing I don’t like about the dress is the boob part. Other than that I think she looks so effortlessly glamorous with just the right amount of sexy. And while i loved the drama of the overskirt back in 2021, i think the dress looks better here.

If it makes you feel better, she does have one bracelet on. So it obv didn’t kill her to wear one. You can see it in some of the pics. She’s looking pretty dang stunning for “half-baked” styling. Were we all so lucky.
She could show up in a potato sack and look stunning. A bracelet isn’t going to make or break her look, she’s stunning inside and out.
I couldn’t figure out why she looked different to me and you’re right, the hairstyle does make her look significantly younger. Looking closely though they appear to be loose spiral curls not waves and if made me wonder if she used hot rollers to get that look. I love it. She looks fantastic, her skin is just golden like she spent all day surfing and then was like let me go to this event. I imagine they don’t go to everything because they still want to be parsimonious with appearances even if they aren’t with money. It does drive significant media attention for the event when they show up somewhere still after almost five years of living in California and that’s only more beneficial for the charity. I mean there were a ton of other famous people there too like Jamie Lee Curtis and I didn’t see any reporting or even photos of her, and she’s a Hollywood legend.
I also think the minimal make up helps. She’s wearing very little. And if you are aging, that can actually make you appear younger.
Minimal makeup isn’t my thing, but she looks good. I would love to see her go full glam one day……and the eyebrows are a hard no for me….no ma’ma. Way too harsh for her beautiful face.
I might be wrong, but I don’t think she’s wearing fake eyelashes here. We see them so frequently on people on camera, and then when you see natural lashes, it looks so different. I think she looks so naturally beautiful here.
@Shanta, I agree about the brows. I find them wayyy too heavy. Strange how such a minor detail can have such an impact! Don’t get me wrong, she’s stunning, but those brows are a distraction for me.
I like this re-wear a lot more, I was not a fan of the train or how she had her hair the first time. I’m not a huge fan of the middle part, but the loose waves are perfection. I love her makeup in this as well, I remember her with more pronounced eyebrow makeup last time and while that was pretty, I think this “no makeup” makeup look suits her better
She looks so young with this hairstyle! She could be in her 20s, right? 🤩 I think she has a little fresh Botox because she isn’t quite smiling normally but still she looks Amazing. The red is incredible on her.
I love her waves and hope one day she’ll grace us with her curls.
@chaine: there is no botox. Meghan takes good care of herself and that shows on her skin. I am sure she gets the occasional facials though, which can also do a lot for you. Then combine that with minimal fresh faced make up and you look young. Not everyone who’s skin isn’t sagging at 40 has botox. Some people are just blessed genetically

I don’t care if she has done botox. The issue with Kate isn’t the botox – its the denials, its the insistence that Kate just naturally looks like that, and its her absolute refusal to age (that is actually aging her.) I’m around Meghan’s age and I do have a few friends who get botox regularly but mostly in between their eyes (the “11s” apparenly lol.)
That said, I don’t think there is botox here, I think she probably does get facials like @Chloe said. It’s amazing what a good facial can do for your skin a few times a year.
I think you need to see more photos and the video of her not only smiling with a huge smile but laughing with her whole face.
Her face definitely looks almost imperceptibly different, so I agree that she has fresh Botox and maybe some filler.

I love Meghan showing up in support of the LA Children’s Hospital! When my youngest spent a week in a hospital after emergency surgery, I was incredibly grateful to everyone who created the space for children to get care. A lot of kids spend way too much of their lives in there—my kid was lucky.
She looks fantastic. This isn’t my fav cut on her but she clearly likes it and that’s what matters. The hair, makeup and colour on her are perfection. I’ve often wondered why they don’t do more of these events too but I’m sure part of it is the hassle of getting to and from LA when you live 2-3 hours away and have little kids. But I think 2024 really has been the start of a new era and I hope they do a couple of events like this a year. The amount of coverage I saw on this yesterday was WILD though! The fascination with Meghan has not decreased at all (which is scary to me frsnkly).
Yes @Tina 2024 definitely feels like a new era and I think its a combination of Archewell being fully established and ready for more front facing work and the kids at 3 & 5 yrs are older so they feel comfortable doing more things outside the house.
I get the feeling we’ll see Harry and Meghan do more publicly as their kids get older and more independent. I thought Harry attracted a lot of interest with his NY, UK, Africa travel but this white heat attention on stunning Meghan for this gala shows the fascination with her is going no where. You are absolutely right about that.
I think the distance is part of it, and maybe the whole complex arranging of security they deal with daily. Hard to say, I just truly do not understand lives of the very rich. Seriously, it just seems too complicated for me! You’d have to hire so many people to manage so many things! I like to keep things as simple as possible (probably my inherent laziness). I never understand the hate for a middle part. It doesn’t make sense to me because there’s only so many ways to part one’s hair. So it’s just the side part forever?
@jt i don’t love middle parts either but I finally realized that i am from an era (70’s/80’s) where the middle part was on its way out and to us, it looked dated and “old fashioned” when people kept wearing it or OUR MOMS MADE US (me) WEAR IT LIKE THAT TO THE PAGENT!!! I’ll never forget it.
I hate middle parts for that reason….I had a middle part through most of elementary school and then finally just switched to a side part where my hair has remained for 30 years thankyouverymuch. To me middle parts scream 60s/early 70s.
I guess to Gen Z though side parts scream 80s/90s, so whatever lol.
I don’t understand the hate for a middle part either. It seems to me a side part creates more fussing with the hair in your face so choosing what works best for you is always the right thing to do. She looks gorgeous either way she chooses to style her hair, so I refuse to shame her for it.

Interesting! I’m a bit older than y’all, so the middle part is what I grew up with in the 60s. Long straight hair, parted in the middle, with bangs (I have a really high forehead). It’s a look I’ll always like, although I switched that up as I got older & have been wearing a pixie cut for decades, which doesn’t need a part.
One the main reasons Harry and Meghan left the Royal family was the lack of freedom to do they things that they want to do so I’m fine with them choosing when to go out or not. Meghan looks fabulous as usual. Now the British press is asking where’s Harry? My guess is he was home with children after spending over a week on the road.
Meghan definitely looks rested, refreshed, and beautiful. Although the fabric and color of her dress are nice, it looks like a rookie dress maker made it. I wonder why high profile people such as Meghan don’t have a person to make alterations on her wardrobe.
Towards the end of the Netflix show, you see someone in their hotel room, fitting her into this dress before she wore it. So someone did fit it, it’s just a weird cut.
I think, she likes her clothes loose, not perfectly tailored to her body. People make this criticism about her all the time. After a few clothes like that, it is obvious she likes it in this way.
Carolina Herrera used that front (deep non-V-neck) on a couple-three gowns. I’m not fond of it, but I guess others do. 🤷♀️
She looks so natural and always stunning! Someone commented she couldn’t rock a, centre part AND She had tattooed eyebrows or something. The British spend a lot of time trying to bully a kind, very smart and beautiful woman
The different eyebrows do have an impact — she looks more like Andie McDowell or Jennifer Connelly now, and we’re just getting used to it. I imagine the shift is toward her natural brows as easier to maintain.
When she was on Greg Kinnear’s talk show years ago and he complimented her she said “It takes a lot of work to be a lady”, which I thought was a clever way to put it!
Yeah….I’m not a fan of her eyebrows. They are way too harsh for her delicate features. They dominate her face. I wish that she would opt for a lighter touch.
Meghan is a gorgeous tiny woman. Her hair looks amazing. Sometimes you forget how tiny she really is because of the number of conversations surrounding her which make her appear larger than life. Happy to see her and her husbands relationship has reached the point where they can spin significant time apart doing their work knowing their relationship is secure. I don’t like the fit of the dress either, but the colour suits her. I do like her hair pulled back into a severe bun or ponytail, I think she has beautiful bone structure and it shows it off.

I didn’t like the dress when she wore it the first time – fabric looks creased, the bust darts and overall construct has an amateurish vibe and not something from a high end fashion house, it’s only the wonderful colour that makes it stand out because Meghan looks fantastic in bold colours.
Also, not sure what’s going on with her eyes but she looks different -heavier eyebrows?
Your comments re structure of the dress are valid. I remember seeing Tracee Ellis Ross in a very similar bodice, from the same Carolina Herrera/Wes Gordon collection at the 2022 Oscars and thinking 🫠🤯🫢 I looked at the collection in its entirety (I do think Meghan & Tracee’s gowns were bespoke based on the collection) but it wasn’t my favourite Wes Gordon collection
@Hannnah: It’s the u cut on the bust that I find aesthetically poor, it’s too wide. Uncertain if a more narrow gap or even a v shape would improve the look and make the darts seem less prominent – that entire section looks like a first attempt by an inexperienced seamstress.
In theory I like the idea behind this bodice, certainly compared with the very deep v styles that seem to be so popular but IMO are almost universally unflattering. I agree though, something seems a bit off with the proportions. That’s in addition to the darting on the cups, which so many commented on. Meghan first wore this dress in November 2021 when she was only a few months post partum with Lily, so likely worked with a tailor to refit it to wear now. The top looks the same though, and I think I liked it better with the full skirt; either it seemed more balanced, or the skirt diverted the eye.
I agree 100%. The dress is horrid. The color looks great on her though. And, I don’t think it was appropriate for a children’s hospital visit. She should have been a little more covered up.
Ummm…you should read the article before you comment. It was a gala event to raise money, I’ve been to many of them in my life and everyone gets dressed up to the hilt. She wasn’t at a children’s hospital holding sick babies in a ballgown.
This gala event was not at a hospital but at a hotel, the JW Marriott and was an evening event. Lots of women in strappy/strapless gowns with thigh slits. When Meghan visited the children at the hospital to read to them, she wore the same skirt snd blouse she took her kids to meet the Queen in. Is that appropriate enough for you?

Not true. The People article says she attended the event, chatted with nurses, talked to families and children, took pictures with them and was later escorted out of the event by a side door.

It’s been a perennial talking point for them, yes. If they start making concerted noise about it in derangerland again it’s a tell about the state of Kate’s face. I don’t mind the heavier eyebrow make-up but I think that’s just my personal aesthetic😂. Having heavier or thinner brows always feels like a personal make-up choice, assuming one doesn’t have thick brows to begin with or if they’re declining with age. As to whether meghan gets work done or what type, all I wana know is please spill the secrets bc she looks lovely. The red carpet is the entrance to the event so if she was escorted off the red carpet into a door, it would be into the event. Several reputable sources have confirmed her presence there inside the event. Part of the reason she was there was in support of her dear friend who she was photographed with on the red carpet. The trolls and unreliable tabloids had no idea that Harry, Meghan and Archewell were huge supporters in LA until the governor himself had to speak up against the lies spread by haters about a check that was already issued by them. I hope Meghan and Kelly had a wonderful time. As for why she and Harry don’t do more charity events, um a two hour drive each way would be a deal breaker for me, even if I’m not doing the driving. And they may be home bodies now that they have kids. Harry and Meghan both spent their twenties and early thirties going and doing more than the average person does in their lifetime. Maybe they would rather write a check and stay home now.

Actually, they were homebodies before they were even married. I think they both said in the documentary (?) that this is how/why they managed to keep their relationship secret for so long. They just spent many days, weeks, months together, alone, cooking and eating and talking and going for walks, etc. Not that they don’t like going out, but they seem to both like nesting.

I think the Sussexes tune out BM noise, it has zero to do with their actual life. When H&M continue to live and work and be seen it blows up whatever narrative the BM tries to float.
From the coverage of this event and her, it seems more like she went on behalf of her friend and others at the LA Children’s Hospital that she has supported behind the scenes. I think that they are regular people who have a huge platform and finances who still value privacy and not constantly being outside in the public sphere.

That dress was one of my favorites too, but I would imagine it brings back some awful memories. Plus the UK tabloid terrors would have a field day if she wore something from the time when she was a “working royal”.

Was nice for Meghan to follow up her March visit to the Children’s Hospital LA where she took part in a reading session with some patients, with attending this gala. The CEO seemed pleased to see her & she seems very familiar with the hospital having friends kids treated there.
The colour of the dress, her hair and glow was everything. Not my favourite outfit but preferred it to how it was worn the first time.
I think Harry & Meghan are selective with events they do- given the scrutiny they attract & having to coordinate security with the event etc it’s probably a lot of hassle so only worth stepping out for things that are very meaningful to them.
They have their own foundation & were in Texas, Nigeria & Colombia this year highlighting some of the causes their foundation supports. Harry has a number of other patronages he’s supporting & has travelled for this year i& they were both in Canada for invictus in February. Archewell also hosted that Kinsey Foundation art exhibition event in LA earlier this year.
They also have two young kids & a new-ish foundation & production company which doesn’t have a huge number of staff, and Meghan has her upcoming lifestyle brand. They have a lot on their plate. So I’m not surprised they don’t do a huge number of local events but they have been out much more this year.
The dress fit better when she had giving birth to Lili. She was fuller. I think this type of dresses look better on fuller figure. I have seen her look much better, that does not mean she does not look good. I like sleek bun hair on her. It reminds of some of the minimalist looks of the in1970s and early 80s which I love.

But this dress requires a bit more styling and doesn’t compliment her lean physique, as opposed to her more voluptuous frame back when she was expecting Lili. The color is smashing on her, but the cut is not for everybody. Not Carolina’s finest creation at all.
I think Meghan volunteered at the hospital earlier this year. I remember pictures of her reading to children. Through her comments, she appears to have friends deeply involved with the hospital because they have children who have needed its services. It seems to be a charity Meghan has taken on, and not Harry and Meghan together.
I think ‘cone boobs” and “balloon boobs” are a particular style or look which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. They are both unattractive silhouettes to my eyes, but I don’t think of them as poor choices by the people wearing them. Meghan looked beautiful, and the dress and Meghan were both grace in motion in the videos. A lot of times, after looking at what she’s wearing, I always come back to see her lovely face. She is just a remarkable combination of stunning beauty and girl next door.

I loved her beachy mermaid waves and her figure looked fantastic in the dress. Not my favorite Meghan gown but it worked and the color is gorgeous on her. She looked both fresh, natural and sexy at the same. She read to kids back at the hospital in March as part of their fundraising so nice to see her out supporting them. Meghan looked STUNNING. Both Meghan and Kelly looked amazing and happy to show up to support Children’s hospital LA. It was a elegant gala and Meghan and Kelly made it feel like a fun glamourous girls night out for a good cause. It wasn’t stuffy at all.
That is the true power of Meghan and Harry. They make doing the right thing and philanthropy look fun. A lot of people think this kind of work is thankless and dull and it can be difficult but it can also give you a sense of purpose and help you build community. It work that is worth doing.

The cups/darts on the dress are experimental art-y/fashion-y but she has excellent posture and maybe it just doesn’t photograph that well? When Meghan wants to slay, she’s very good at body-conscious dressing that stays classy and not overtly sexualized, which is perfect for a duchess.
Yes that bodice is very reminiscent of 1950s Charles James. Tracy Ellis Ross also wore a similar style to an awards show . It definitely looks better on the runway but I love the deep U neckline. I like that she rewore it as a sheath and minimal jewelry. We know how they price out everything she wears. As someone wrote upthread, she and Kelly made it look like a fun night out and loved those photos she took with the family of the little girl in the white dress. So cute!
The dress somewhat reminds me of Cindy Crawford’s Jessica Rabbit dress that she wore to the Oscars when married to Richard Gere. Cindy’s dress likewise fit her kind of weirdly at the top, but it’s a gorgeous red & she was so pretty.
I don’t care for the dress so much myself, but Meghan is just so pretty and I’m glad to see her glowing.
I have to disagree, she looked too casual and a little messy. It’s too bad because red is a nice change of color for her.
again, wonderful color. horrible dress. looks worse without the train. boob area is so wonky and the material looks wrinkled but also so heavy. kinda wish she would have just left this one back in the closet to never wear again.
I love Meghan to bits but I vehemently despise this dress. It is marginally better than the version with the overskirt but the top is heinous even when she had the nursing Mum breasts to fill it.
Remake dress as a skirt, wear with a man tailored shirt three buttons open, sleeves slightly rolled and it would be great. Her hair and coloring is fantastic. She is gorgeous.

Good point. She doesn’t need to look pristine, perfect and starched or whatever all the time. She can wear a dress that elicits a lot of talk or opinions, and still look amazing. Fashion isn’t always conventionally pretty.
