These are photos of Rihanna from the weekend, when she attended a European music awards show held in Cannes, France. The dress is Gaultier. What do you think? I don’t know what’s going on, but I kind of like it on Rihanna. On someone else, it might suck, and on Rihanna, it made me stop and actually examine all the stuff going on in the dress. It seems to actually be two parts – the long, intricate white top piece, and then the shiny silver skirt. If the whole dress had been the white lace stuff, and had been fully lined and shorter, it would have been really cute. As is, the white kind of overwhelms the silver, in my opinion.
Anyway, at the awards show, Rihanna was named the “best international female artist”. Here’s more:
US singer Rihanna further cemented her status as one of the most exciting followers of fashion on Sunday, while also celebrating her musical success.
Arriving at France’s biggest music awards in Cannes, the 21-year-old got cameras clicking in a show-stopping two-tiered gown by Jean Paul Gaultier.
The Barbadian singer chose a striking ensemble, comprised of a white embroidered gown lain over a shimmering silver sheath, at the NRJ’s where she claimed the crown of best international female.
Rihanna’s wardrobe was not the only talking point of the evening.
The Black Eyed Peas – who won best international song for I Gotta Feeling – were mistakenly named best international group, an award that belonged to German band Tokio Hotel.
A similar mix-up occured at last year’s ceremony, when Katy Perry was wrongly given Rihanna’s trophy for best song.
Lady Gaga was named international revelation of the year, and Britain’s own Robbie Williams was named best international male, and also shared the award of honour with Beyonce.

In other Rihanna news, even People Magazine seems to be worried about her new relationship with baseball player Matt Kemp. Kemp’s ex-girlfriend filed a restraining order against him in 2008, claiming that Kemp threatened and harassed her. The ex is still sticking with her story to this day – but she acknowledges that Kemp never physically abused her, although in my opinion, stalking and harassing are the precursors to physical violence. Kemp still denies that any of it went down, with his reps saying stuff like “the statements… were false. This happened over a year ago and it’s really a non-issue for him… He was saddened by the whole thing.” Ugh. I hope for Rihanna’s sake that this Kemp guy isn’t as nasty as his ex seems to think, but I fear that Rihanna hooked herself another piece of work.

Fugly. Especially the silver skirt. It would’ve been more avantgarde and flattering without it, even though obviously that was not really an option…
I like the earrings though.

I think that if skirt was a shimmery dark color or her shade of “nude,” or even sparkly capris, it might have made it more dramatic.
I dunno. The silver kinda takes away from it for me. Maybe if the white crochet was silver or had more detailing instead…

I wonder if the silver looks better in person rather than in photos. Overall, creative and works to my eyes, but I don’t know much about fashion.
No, I dont like the dress or her awful fake eyelashes. It kinds screams ‘Katie Price glamor!’ to me. And I’m pertty sure we all know what an epic idiot she is. Trading one flashy abusive baller for another. I wonder how much sympathy she’s going to get if he ends up beating her ass too.

this dress is made up of two very different dresses at the same time. and the false lashes look like tarantulas on her eyes.
I really like Rihanna’s music but she reminds me of a female version of Prince lately.

The big lace? Huge fashion trend. Check out the latest bridal gowns! Cut out lace everywhere. Rihanna, of course, will have more “avant” to her look, so it’s more outrageous, but ladies, get used to lace as the big trend. And, asymetrical.
i love the dress and think she is pulling it off. she pulls off a lot of clothes that would look bad on others.

this is one of the better things i have seen her in. although it is very revealing, it’s not sleazy or too aggressively sexy.

I think it’s cute. I’m a fan of the dress with the pants – Do I think it’s high fashion? No- Do I think it’s elegant? No- I think it’s cute. I also think she’s beautiful, and most of the odd stuff she wears (and this outfit is more in the normal realm for her), she makes look good.
Seperately it could be two nice dresses. Together it looks a mess and like two seperate dresses thrown together.
the lace overpiece is not bad at all; it looks hand-worked. I’d have put it over a non-metallic sateen knee-length strapless of almost any color; something with a bodice front at least. the two pieces have nothing to do with each other.
What’s going on with her white bag coverage eye makeup? Too much white eye goop though it matches the fugly doilies.
Asymetrical has been the style for the last year or so. Lace, has been around a while too, although I don’t think the doily look is going to really be “in.” You have to be tall and thin and have a darker skin tone (maybe the fake tan’ll work) to not get washed out.
That makeup is awful. First thing I noticed wasn’t the dress, it was the freaky eyelashes.
As for the dress, I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either. The white/silver combo isn’t working for me, but she wears such strange things, this almost looks too tame for her.
Gaultier always designs sort of odd things.
She has no fashion sense and needs a stylist. The dress looks like a long macrame table cloth.
