Donald Trump has won the presidency four years after he incited an insurrection

Donald Trump is on track to win outright. He won Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Georgia. He’s on track to win Wisconsin, Michigan, Arizona and Nevada. He had zero ground game. He’s a felon. He incited an insurrection less than four years ago. But he was running against a woman again, and if there’s one thing Americans hate, it’s women.

In 2016, I still had some sense of hope that whatever happened during a Trump presidency, we could find a way to survive and recover. I don’t have that hope this time. Not after everything that’s happened, not after the past nine years of this utter sh-tshow. This is the American electorate looking at this orange clown and saying “that’s my guy.” They heard “mass deportations” and they said “anything to bring down housing costs.” They heard every single warning about Trump’s authoritarian fascism and they said “sounds amazing.” They heard the promise of authoritarianism and they said “sign me up.”

What’s especially crazy is that Trump doesn’t even want to be president again. He was just running to avoid prison. This senile, hateful, disgusting 78-year-old man was exhausted and phoning it in for most of the campaign. He kept disappearing for weeks at a time to golf and sundown in peace. When he went to vote in Florida yesterday, he sounded almost resigned to losing. Even he underestimated the stupidity of Americans. Even he can’t believe that people fell for it again.

    I have no words. 😢

    • Kitten says:

Went to bed early when I was getting nervous but hoped it was just a red mirage. Woke up at 4AM and husband was scrolling and he broke the news.
Been sobbing since. This is worse than 2016, so much worse. We know what we’re getting this time and we know that he’ll be completely unrestrained.

This is just the worst possible outcome on all levels. He won the popular vote! How?!? Americans are terrible people.

      • Sue says:

@Kitten – yes, that is one of the hardest things to accept: that the majority of people in our country are racist, misogynist, anti-science, with no basic understanding of history – this kind of leadership doesn’t turn out well for anyone except the uber rich.

      • Mabs A'Mabbin says:

        Terrible. Terrible. Terrible people.

      • MichaelaCat says:

@Sue, and too many of the people who aren’t, placed vanity (“look at me, I’m so woke I ain’t voting for either”) above common sense.

      • Abbie says:

Not an American, but I would say rather than Americans being “terrible” people I’d say they are uneducated people. By and large, privatizing education and making it a privilege of the rich has enabled this. It’s easier to manipulate the masses if no one can afford to learn how to think critically. Again, I don’t mean to insult Americans because if I had been born in the US I too would have only had a high school education because I wouldn’t have been able to afford anything else. I consider myself very lucky to have been born in a country where good education, including universities, and health care are all free.

  2. yipyip says:

    Unreal. And terrifying.
With everything we know about him, How?

  3. M says:

    Oh, my God.

  4. I feel for you all. Sending prayers and hugs from Australia

  5. sevenblue says:

They also got the house and senate, right? They have literally got free reign to advance their crazy policies against women, POC, immigrants. We are gonna see a lot of Trump voters getting shocked that leopards are gonna eat their face too.

    • Kokiri says:

There goes Comstock. There goes everything.

Is it too early to be angry Dems did sfa to protect any of this? The filibuster, comstock, Scotus?

      • DK says:

I’ve been angry for years we didn’t get that done when Joe first came into office.

I’d been holding out hope that Kamala would do it as soon as she was in.

I’m back to angry. And devastated

    • blueberry says:

House is yet to be decided. There are several races not called, many in California, which accepts mail in votes after election day. So there’s a sliver of hope. The House would be the only guardrail.

  6. Lau says:

As somebody from outside of the US I honestly don’t have the words. This is unconceivable and utterly shameful. The number of people who willingly voted for him is beyond understanding. Really I am truly sorry for the other people who had the decency to vote against him.

    • StillDouchesOfCambridge says:

      Im in disbelief
      But why?!?!!?!!?
      But how?!!?!!?!!!?

    • sunny says:

I feel so sad for my American friends and family and everyone on this site. I was watching from Canada and while I was disappointed I wasn’t shocked. I thought the Harris campaign did a brilliant job, truly a flawless campaign. I was hopeful they’d win. But unfortunately, the hate for women, means that a qualified woman will lose to this disaster of a man. That people could hear what this man was saying and choose to hold their nose and vote for him anyway? Smh.

Many, many, many people will be hurt by what comes next. I have no words. I hope every American on this site is taking care of themselves today. I can’t imagine how they are feeling.

      • LadyMTL says:

I remember saying to my mom and aunt back in 2016 after HRC lost that I doubted Americans would ever elect a woman president…there’s too much ingrained sexism and misogyny (and add racism in this case too.) I wish that I had been wrong. 🙁
Sending love to CBers, hang in there.

  7. Hannah says:

OMFG. The papers are officially calling it. I am shattered, devastated … completely and irrevocably heartbroken. I am so sorry. I genuinely did not think this would happen. My heartfelt condolences to US celebitches

  8. Elizza says:

The dumbing down of America is complete.

In the words of Jim Morrison, “This is the end.”

  9. Jp says:

I listened to an interview of a Trump voter exiting the polls in PA yesterday, they asked why she was voting for him- she said he would stop babies from being aborted after they are born. We are just beyond screwed. The level of misinformation coupled with people who don’t seem to be capable of discerning truth from fiction is terrifying. And then all of that aside- he ran on a campaign of pure hate …and won. The next 4 years might suck, but I’m most terrified for the conservative Supreme Court for the rest of my life.

    • Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Thank you. Our collective stupidity will haunt me to the day I die.

    • Jackson says:

JP you pretty much said what I am too exhausted to write. Idiocracy, indeed.
There is no coming back from this in four years. Or four election cycles…even assuming free and fair elections will happen (they won’t.)
I am in mourning for this country, and for what is to come.

  10. Flo says:

This is worse than 2016. Now we know how much damage he can inflict.

    • bisynaptic says:

      🎯

    • Giddy says:

I’m very afraid that we don’t know. All I know is that it’s really awful, and I just pray we survive. I am completely shattered and feel like I am in mourning.

    • Sarah Jane Herbener says:

And without anyone decent working for him this time. He’ll only have sycophants and manipulators … and he is easily manipulated, he’ll do whatever they want as long as they praise him. In his first term he at least had some aides/advisors who would talk him down, or give good advice with a healthy dollop of flattery to get him to carry it out, or even do things like listen and nod when he gave a crazy order and then just “forget” to action it, knowing his Swiss-cheese brain wouldn’t remember it anyway. This time there will be nobody like that, because nobody with both a brain and a conscience will work for him. Nobody to tell him, “No, you can’t nuke people you don’t like,” or “No, you can’t shoot protestors in the knees.”

    • MoonTheLoon says:

What’s scarier is that so does he and his handlers. They have knowledge of what’s in place and how to get away with stripping it back. We’re in for a mean ride. Better strap in!

  11. RMS says:

Yesterday I got the news my cancer is starting to relapse. And somehow, it’s not the WORST news so far this week. I just sold my homes in Mexico, but I still have permanent resident status. At least there is somewhere I can go if it goes as sideways as we fear. For sure, I will be dead of this cancer in 4 years, but at least I will be surrounded by people prescient enough to elect a woman President before our dumb selves could.

    • Whyforthelove says:

I’m so very sorry about your health. What a horrible way to top off a horrible week. Please take care

    • bisynaptic says:

      Best wishes.

    • Jaded says:

@RMS — I too am fighting a losing cancer battle so I’ll be pushing up daisies within 4-5 years too. My biggest fear is that Trump is now opening the door to a huge push from Putin to openly meddle and control politics in the US, and this will affect Canada where I live, and the entire planet. Uber-right conservatives are gaining popularity here and we may have a Federal election called in September, Pierre Poilievre may very well win. Many eastern and Western European countries must be terrified at this point — bye-bye Ukraine. Trump is now a global terror, not just American.

Wishing you all the best and yours in cancer solidarity — X0

    • Heather says:

I am an US citizen who lives in Mexico and have for almost 12 years. If he really starts deporting latinos, Mexico will deport us. I don’t particularly feel safe here either. Just saying—and I’m also a permanent resident. My adult daughter lives in Scotland and that may be my bolt hole.

I am so sorry for your diagnosis 😢

  12. Midnight@theOasis says:

    White supremacy. Racism. Misogyny.

“Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.” George Carlin

“If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”
    – Lyndon B. Johnson

  13. Truthiness says:

Sickening. But also count every ballot before conceding. I don’t trust the guy who didn’t have field offices, the guy who trades on misogyny to win.

  14. North of Boston says:

All that talk about “this is not who we are” ?

Well, actually apparently this is EXACTLY who we are.

We Americans chose him, the hate, the lunacy, the orange, JD Vance

And we gave him Congress too

To the rest of the world, I am so sorry
To the children of the world, I am so sorry
    You all deserved better

    • Dee(2) says:

Yeah I don’t think we need to do in-depth post mortems here. We have to accept what is staring us in the face, this is who a vast majority of the country is. I won’t say we, because it’s not who I am and it never will be. But the fact that this man after all he said and done made massive inroads across the board. Including in blue states, and among demographics who should know better let us know that that veneer of politeness that you have from your neighbors is just that. Take some time to decompress and disengage if you have to. I’m not going to stop voting or anything like that but I absolutely understand the despair that others feel. What broke my heart the most this morning was reading comments from so many military personnel who felt they had wasted their time defending a democracy that doesn’t seem to appreciate itself.

      • North of Boston says:

Yeah I’m going to give a hard pass to any pundits doing a post mortem on Harris’s campaign.

Unless they are going to go all the way back to Nixon, the Southern Strategy Reagan, Rush Limbaugh, and GW Bush and to figure out how Dems could have stopped the rise of Fox News and trickle down economics and other policies that gutted public education or dumbed it down, it’ll just be yet another ”blame the women’ ‘blame the Dems’ pointless exercise

The only writer I’m looking forward to today is Heather Cox Richardson. A brilliant historian’s perspective with a long view may be insightful … and either calming or a call to action

    • Josephine says:

I’ve always thought that voters get what they deserved. Women will pay for it, as always. The poor who voted for him will pay for it. The poor who didn’t bother voting will pay for it. All but about 10 Americans will pay dearly for their sins of voting for a man who has shown you his evil.

  15. yipyip says:

Trump won on fear, hate, and control.
    Society is changing.
Ppl, as stupid and wrong as it is, voted for him because he kept saying he could control, make decisions, “MAGA” I can fix this by being a dictator on day one, blah, blah.
All lies and BS. The Great White Save Us Daddy for President. Monkey brain wins.

I gotta try to get some sleep. What a flaming hot turd of a situation.

    • Anna says:

This is how all Trump-like guys win in Europe as well – they pretend to be this strong guys who will just “order” things to be a certain way and the fools fall for that. Meanwhile the economy falls, everything gets more expensive but somehow the voters can still “explain” and justify how this is not thei savior’s fault.

  16. Sydneygirl says:

I was watching it all day here in Australia. I can’t believe it..and yet I can. Because America did it before in 2016.

The misogyny, the name calling, the lies.

I’ve had friends in the U.S. messaging me all night. They’re afraid. And who can blame them?

The U.S. is the most powerful country in the world – who will reign him in?

My love and heartfelt good wishes to all of you today. I’d hoped for…hope.

  17. Gardendryer says:

When the economy tanks as it did before and when health-care costs go up and when loved ones get detained because of the color of their skin or their wife/daughter/sister dies and they voted for Trump, I will have no problem looking then dead in the eye and telling them that it is their own fault. Going to take a long time to regain empathy after this.

    • Meg says:

This is how I feel too. Are they going to be surprised when they lose their social security? They not only voted against trans people and immigrants, they voted against their own best interest!

  18. Clove says:

I’m totally ashamed of the USA! Our democracy is probably over and it has shown exactly who we are as a country and a shamefully
I don’t think these people know what they voted for, but they will find out

  19. zappy says:

So Harris lost because she is a woman? People chose that orange monster because they didnt want a woman as president ? Very strange for a first world country.
Even in Asia, some have had elected woman as president

    • Cj says:

Let’s be honest – America has been teetering off the end of that first world country list for some time. This will be what causes it to finally drop off

    • Anne Keane says:

Not sure why there’s an ‘even in Asia’. The world’s first elected female leader was the prime minister of Ceylon – now Sri Lanka – in 1960. Other Asian countries have followed, notably with Indira Gandhi in India and Benazir Bhutto in Pakistan. The US is something of an outlier now. Gutted for all the decent Americans who didn’t vote for this vile specimen.

  20. Normades says:

Hillary wasn’t unlikable. It’s just everyone hates women. It’s like char the god said: he can be lawless while she has to be flawless. And she was. And we still lost. I just now know people hate women that’s all

    • Jas says:

That’s the really terrifying thing isn’t it. Given a choice between a competent intelligent compassionate woman and an incoherent orange fascist, an outright majority of voters chose the fascist.

  21. Jackie says:

I’m not even American but I’m crying over here.

    • SunnyDays says:

I’m Canadian and I went to bed in tears and woke up on tears. This isn’t just an American problem, this is a global problem. I’m terrified for us all.

  22. Beana says:

I have no faith in people anymore. For the majority of them, this is who they are – hateful, full of fear, and utterly selfish. My husband and I made a pact to keep our heads down and protect our disabled child as best we can. So many people will suffer and die because of this, but I will risk nothing because I no longer believe in people.

  23. Shelly Bean says:

And RFK is going to be given a position of power dealing with health! Preventable diseases and cavities for all! I am sorry to say but America is well and truly stuffed.

    • twasthenight says:

He’s already talked about wanting to send people on mental health medications to “camps” where they can work to be free of their mental illness.

I’m on SSRIs. It makes me sick to think about.

  24. Jas says:

My heart goes out to all of the US Celebitchy people. You did you best and voted for hope and change.
I was holding my breath here in New Zealand, hoping for a Harris/Walz win. They ran a great campaign but misogyny and racism won out in the end.

  25. Eowyn says:

US elections affect all of us, there is no power more dominant than US empire and imperialism.

  26. Harla says:

I realized tonight that America is full of moral cowards. And the Democratic Party needs to get into middle America and find out what went wrong, where did we screw up?

    • Becks1 says:

We underestimated the depth of sexism and racism in the country. And stupidity.

This wasn’t about policy differences or whatever. This was about people wanting the white man who said he wanted to be a dictator over the Black Indian woman who wanted to put Rs in her cabinet.

      • North of Boston says:

The Democrats likely couldn’t have done much to change the outcome:

They were offering delicious edible food … salads and roast chicken and mashed potatoes, lasagna with chocolate cake and apple pie for everyone

But the majority of voters wanted hammers to smash all the dinner tables, a bucket of cold chicken (they’ll eat at hot meal at home later, their wife is chained in the kitchen fixing dinner) and mud and acid to throw at all the hungry people while they laugh at the cruel jerks beating black and brown people

    • Brassy Rebel says:

@ Harla: the Democratic party did not screw up; the voters did. We need to be very clear about that. We had a great candidate who ran a near flawless campaign. The only things she couldn’t control were her gender and her skin color and those proved to be fatal flaws for most. We need to be clear about who bears responsibility.

      • ML says:

Trump also had that sniveling lobster, Leon Muskrat, who literally used AI and misinformation on his Twitter platform and who worked with foreign trolls to undermine Harris.

If people are getting their news and information via Twitter, Facebook/ Meta, TikTok, etc, instead of traditional media, how do you reach them? Seriously, I’m not blaming the Democrats for this. The regular media also made Trump seem sane. There are people living in an alternate reality: how to you reach these people??

Harris ran an excellent campaign in a short amount of time. She motivated people. She campaigned her heart out. She welcomed Americans of all shapes and colors.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

People are not just uninformed. They are misinformed. Deliberate misinformation. I was stunned at Kamala’s Univision town hall when so many of the questions were based on lies that Trump and his minions were telling. The voters were parroting the disinformation—in Spanish! No way she could clean it all up although she tried. Democracy cannot survive when large swaths of the population cannot discern the truth.

      • QuiteContrary says:

Completely right, Brassy Rebel. Kamala’s campaign kicked ass.

We are just surrounded by monsters.

  27. Joanne says:

I’m so sorry but you will end up with the woman hating JD Vance as president.

    • Josephine says:

This has been my take as well. I think the dark powers have always been gearing up to get rid of donald as soon as they possibly can. I don’t think he’ll survive 4 years unless he does exactly what they tell him to do. He’s not in charge, and never was.

      • K says:

Agree. This is only the beginning of the madness. Thank God I don’t have children. If I could I would leave this country.

      • Sarah Jane Herbener says:

I think the right-wing powers that be will remove Trump as soon as they can (via the 25th Amendment). They only needed him as their candidate to get the Trumpers to the polls. But he’s easily manipulated, and that means he’s erratic. In his first term, they’d get him going on some (awful) initiative but then he’d wander off in another direction as soon as someone else flattered him. Vance, on the other hand, is smart, canny and focused, and he really wants to enact as much of Project 2025 etc. as possible. He’ll be more effective, and they all know it. I predict Vance will be president within a year. And then, welcome to Gilead.

    • salmonpuff says:

I just said to Mr. Puff that I predict a Vance presidency by around March. I’m not that worried about us, but we have three kids just starting out (two of whom cast their first presidential votes for Harris) and I’m terrified for the world their coming of age in.

    • DeltaJuliet says:

Absolutely. There is no what TFG makes it four years.

    • Nic919 says:

I agree. He is less obviously deranged and he made sure to visit Russia so they will want someone who can be controlled better than the clearly unstable orange one.

I feel bad for every American who voted for Harris.

  28. aquarius64 says:

American here who is in deep mourning. This is not my country anymore. TikTok is on; there are people who are disowning family members who voted for Trump. Trump fulfilled one of his acts, breaking up families. And if Trump’s policies hurts the person who voted him they’re on their own. Such is the mood here.

  29. Becks1 says:

Something I said to my husband this morning – I’m not consuming the Trump news machine this time around. After he was elected the first time, we would watch MSNBC breathlessly every night, watch all the political funny shows (Colbert, Daily Show, etc), I would buy all the books from ex staffers about how BSC the Trump White House was, etc.

I’m not doing that this time around. Trump was good business for the news channels, for publishers, etc and I’m doing my part to make sure they don’t get that bump this year. They’ve spent years glossing over his cognitive issues but hammered away at Biden after one lousy debate? They acted like Kamala Harris’ laugh was the same as Trump’s felonies??

I’m not participating in the media machine this time around. I’ll follow the news, but I’m going to try to find different sources this time. Last time I went and got a WaPo and NYT subscription to support journalism. Now I’ve canceled both (NYT years ago, WaPo last week.)

    • Jodz says:

My husband and I had the same conversation this morning regarding the media.

    • SIlverPoodle says:

Same. I am not going to be watching any news. I cannot stand to see his hideous pig eyed face.

    • K says:

@Becks..it is all of this. He made ALL the media sooo much $$money. Time to cut off the oxygen of attention.

    • Swaz says:

I’m feeling the same, there’s no way I’m going to consume all that again. I’m already moving on mentally 😭

    • blueberry says:

Yes! CNN was basically giddy last night. Last time I feel like there was a sense that we’d been taken over by the Electoral College. The majority would “resist” and all that. But he’s won the popular vote. The only power I can really wield is with my wallet. I’m already boycotting many companies and CNN has been added to the list.

    • Nic919 says:

Corporate media is a problem around the world but I agree that 24/7 News ends up not telling you much of anything.
Independent media voices need to be supported.

    • QuiteContrary says:

I just canceled WaPo and the NYT and deleted my Twitter account. Same, Becks. I just cannot do it this time around.

  30. Iheoma Nwakpadolu says:

Come January 20th, Trump the fascinating mad dog will be president in name only.. Vance the calculating fox and his project 2025 dark forces will be in power and in charge. Trump is just the shinny distraction from them, the shadow people.

    • Nina says:

My thoughts exactly. Trump is old, tired, and incoherent, but he has a rabid fanbase, while Vance is wildly unpopular and uncharismatic. Vance and his masters (Thiel, Musk) used Trump’s popularity to get Vance in the WH. Ultimately he’s going to be the one doing all the work behind the scenes.

  31. Supersoft says:

I know it’s not a solace. But. People did not vote for Harris because she is a woman. They did not vote for her because she is not a man.
Look at the latest Trump videos. He behaves himself like a silverback. His whole movement is that of a silverback. He behaves like the Alpha male of the ape group and that’s why people vote for him. Never underestimate the ape in every human. Because that’s what we come from and that’s how many people still, unconsciously maybe, behave. For the next election the Dems need to come up with a candidate like that. (and not sabotage themselves like they did with Bernie).

  32. bisynaptic says:

I don’t want to be all doom-and-gloom, but this bad… like: collapse-of-civilization bad.

Putin won—and we didn’t even fire a single shot.

  33. GoodWitchGlenda says:

Don’t let 3rd party voters off the hook. They’ve helped Trump win and I will never let them forget it.

    • blueberry says:

I’m so angry at the nonvoters and third party protest voters. I hope they like what they’re getting. Both sides were not equally bad and yall are going to find out the hard way.

  34. Bumblebee says:

All I can think is, there will be no competent, moral advisors in the White House to slow down the madness. He ran them all off last time. I hope the federal departments are putting all secrets in a black hole no one can access. Because our country is for sale again.

  35. Barbara says:

I’ve been struggling with my mental health the past several weeks and this morning, I feel completely hopeless. I don’t know if I can survive four more years of Donald Trump or Vance. I’ve been shaking since I woke up this morning and I just want to cry.

    • bisynaptic says:

      You’re not alone.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

Barbara, please get help if you need it. I think mental health clinics will see a surge of patients in the next few weeks. Seriously, everyone must do what they need to do. 🙏

    • Bellaluna McKenzie says:

I can barely breathe as a Canadian-born, white woman married to an American man. Still in the process of getting green card but stalled due to unforeseen hurdles.

I am scared of losing everything and being deported. I love my husband more than life itself but the fear I’m experiencing at the thought of being taken away (even as a white woman) is crushing. I’ve been sobbing, nesr wailing, since my husband left for work. I’m doing my best to try to calm down and stop but…my throat feels constricted, the knots is my stomach just won’t go away. I have very llittle people to talk to about this and even my mother and aunt in Canada have checked up on me.

I have no idea how I’m going to make it through the next years (even assuming he only stays for one more term and not install himself as dictator).

      I feel so helpless.

      • MoonTheLoon says:

@Bellaluna- With all due respect, you’ll be fine as a white woman. It’s the black and brown people they’re coming for.

    • Sue says:

Barbara – there is help out there. Please do utilize it. You are not alone and there is zero shame in getting help. If you feel like you are in a crisis, you can dial 988 and someone will be there on the other line to help you. I have a therapy appointment scheduled for Thursday and I am grateful for it. Take care.

  36. Fuzzy Crocodile says:

I don’t know what I want to say.

I lost all pride in my country.

The racism and sexism etc. continues to be there, just under the surface. But it’s clear now. I held on to this hope that we don’t deserve.

Only bright spot was NC elected a blue Gov, Lt Gov, AG etc.

    • Lucky Charm says:

Yet they still elected Herr Trump.

“Only bright spot was NC elected a blue Gov, Lt Gov, AG etc.” Was that supposed to be the consolation prize?

      • Becks1 says:

To me that’s almost worse because it says people werent voting straight R. They were making a choice – Republican here, Democrat there.

      • Fuzzy Crocodile says:

It is my weak silver lining I’m clinging to from my bubble in N.C.

        Otherwise it’s hopelessness.

  37. Alex says:

Mexico has his first woman president she was elected this year and I really thought we would see two north American countries having female president setting such an amazing precedent for women but Trump won again 😢

  38. yipyip says:

How do we even try to protect ourselves?
Those of us who are elderly, disabled, worked our entire lives but are still living week to week, what now for us?

  39. Hypocrisy says:

We are about to plummet into a hell our ancestors fought to prevent. Our arrogance and stupidity led us here.. every empire crumbles from within looks like our time has come because he will destroy everything good our country was created for. I keep thinking I woke up in my nightmares, I think I’m actually in shock. The tears just keep coming.

  40. Brassy Rebel says:

    “…if there’s one thing Americans hate, it’s women.” 🎯

I keep overestimating the American people and they keep making me look like a damn fool. And I don’t want to hear any hot takes about “economic anxiety” and all that bull crap. This is 💯 racial grievance with a large helping of misogyny. They see exactly who Trump is and keep voting for him. This is who they are. The cruelty is the point.

  41. Lucky Charm says:

I am sick to my stomach. Yesterday afternoon my mom called me to ask if I would spend the night after Thanksgiving and put up their Christmas decorations the next day. Now, I don’t even want to spend Thanksgiving with my parents, they both happily voted for the fascist and I’m certainly not going to feel thankful or joyful at the holidays, knowing what’s in store for all of us.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

No one in my family voted for, or ever would vote for Trump. I’m lucky in that. I haven’t checked in with my sister yet, but she is probably freaking out like me. As the vote counting began last evening I was texting my niece. She had this thing predicted from the start even though she despises Trump. I was still hopeful early and called her Debbie Downer. She is much wiser than me and sees her fellow countrymen clearly.

      • Becks1 says:

The thing is, back in maybe June/July, I was prepared for another Trump presidency. Even when Biden stepped down I immediately thought “eff there goes the white house.” But then I saw how people rallied to Harris and how she inspired people etc and I thought, well maybe there’s a chance. and then over the last two weeks I really got my hopes up. So now I feel worse than I think I would have if the election had been in June, you know?

How were the polls all so wrong?? I mean I know most had it as pretty close but I dont think anyone really expected him to win the popular vote.

    • Gabby says:

@LuckyCharm, you do what’s right for you. We all have a right to preserve ourselves from contact with MAGA relatives who will rub salt in wounds

  42. Joy says:

My heart shrieks with terror for every trans person in this country. My god. What the fuck have we done.

  43. Lens says:

Can’t say it better than Kaiser. Unlike 2016 it wasn’t so much shock as utter disappointment in our country. I watched Netflix until ten and I saw the way it was going that was enough. Went back to Netflix to try to escape reality. Trumpers were all saying it’s the economy. But the economy made a soft landing this year but no one will truly feel it for another year. And then Trump will take the good economy he inherited both times from democrats and declare victory. I just hope he was lying about all the crap he said he was gonna do. Tariffs? Deportations? You never know with that clown.

  44. jensa says:

There are many things I don’t understand here, but one of them is that it was clear that Trump has some serious mental competence issues, whether it’s dementia or something else. Those rallies were mostly complete gibberish. He doesn’t seem capable of following even his own train of thought. So voters were presumably happy for this individual to have probably the most powerful job in the world?? Doesn’t this seem a bit, y’know, dangerous? Don’t they care? Or were they voting for the sinister “team” of Vance, Musk, Kennedy etc.?

    • TurbanMa says:

The amount of intelligence and integrity some Americans have has been undeniably deemed worthless to others. The message is clear, America is not about religious freedom or any other freedom. It is and has declared itself a white christian nation and other people have let themselves get too comfortable. We can stay and serve their need for greed and power or we can get lost. That’s what is in my heart. There’s not going to be a focus on basic needs for life, there will be no overhaul of the industrial prison complex, and there will be no focus on education.
I lived at a time when intelligence and ethics were more highly esteemed and that is now the past. This is where we are now.

  45. Luis says:

I am stunned. I feel very sad and am very fearful for the future for the United States. I see lots of civil rights cancelled, a deep economic decline, and more power to the ultra rich. There is nothing to celebrate but to mourn instead.

  46. Carty says:

I’m devastated. Add to the fact half my family voted for that pig. They thought their taxes were too high and other stupid shit. I don’t even want to do any holidays with them. I’m disgusted with all of them. Just rich greedy people who have no compassion I guess. My sisters son is gay and works at FBI. He will be a target. Her kids are struggling with IVF which I’m sure will be banned at some point. F*ck them all. Going to have to limit my interaction from now on because I’ll go ballistic at the mere mention of his name and their justification for him.

  47. Hummingbird says:

To all decent Americans, I am so sorry that you will have to endure another Trump presidency.
I cannot believe he has won. It makes no sense. Out of 350 million people you have ended up with a felon in power.
I have a feeling his little trick with the assassination attempt swung it for him.
He’s way too stupid to have thought of that by himself. Cui bono?

  48. Grant says:

As a gay Texan, I feel forlorn and hopeless. We couldn’t even get rid of human skidmark Ted Cruz.

Sending all my fellow Celebitchies love this morning. I am so sorry.

  49. Ellie says:

My advice is to go to your female doctors appointments now. Get everythingggggg checked. Get your hands on as much birth control as you can if needed. Our rights are probably going to go away and quickly.

Very heartbroken to learn that so many people are misogynistic, racist and hate women.

  50. AC says:

I already had a bad feeling when wealthy people from outside the US were betting millions of dollars for a Trump win and the La Times and Wapost who have been endorsing a presidential candidate since I was a kid – did not want to endorse Kamala. Not to mention look at who’s been backing Trump, billionaires like Musk and Thiel.

  51. annissasunshine says:

I am devastated. This is not the America I grew up in. I am Mexican American and my mom, who came to this country when she was just 19 with my dad and who is a Democrat, told me that my Dad said, before the election, that if Trump wins, they will sell their house and they would go to Mexico because it will not be safe for her here.
I called her last night and I was crying so hard I could barely breathe. My older sister likes Trump and I just cannot with her.
There are no words. I just don’t understand and cannot comprehend how he won.

  52. Naur says:

Ain’t no way this is real life! Not one state????? The sack of feces SAID don’t worry after this you won’t be voting anymore. Ain’t no way this is anything but bad

  53. aquarius64 says:

THIS JUST IN: Trump has just announced at a press conference he will do mass deportation, as he campaigned. He won’t be sworn in until Jan 20. To the minority Trump voters with immigrant friends and/or family: the orange leopard is sharpeneing his claws to get ready to eat your faces.

  54. Kathalea says:

I knew something was going down.. I’m not suprised that this is the outcome.

I do believe MANY Americans voted for him, bizarre

  55. Jaded says:

I can see Vance back-stabbing Trump in this game of thrones — maybe secretly leaking his medical records showing he’s heading into an advanced state of dementia, cozying up to the Ted Cruz’s, Ron DeSantis’s, Marco Rubios of the Rethuglicans to create some kind of quiet coup. Mark my words, his eyes have been on the prize ever since he was suggested as running mate.

  56. BearcatLawyer says:

Over the years I have had literally thousands of immigration clients tell me how in their darkest hours – when agents of their own governments were torturing them or threatening them – they clung to the hope that not every country was like their own. They believed in the promise of the American dream and found the strength to leave everything and everyone they knew and loved behind to come here, be free, and live in peace. They valued our democracy and looked forward to becoming US citizens and being able to vote their conscience. And for many years of my career, all of their beliefs about the USA were mostly true. I cannot say that anymore.

  57. yipyip says:

    CNN has a post up
    “It was the economy, stupid”

    What? How stupid are ppl?

  58. Liz Purr says:

Well I guess I have to find a coping mechanism now.🫠
