Jelly Roll gave Prince Harry a neck tattoo in a cute Invictus Games video

In late September, Prince Harry went to New York for a week. He had back-to-back meetings and events at the United Nations and Clinton Global Initiative, he did work around African Parks, Sentebale, Travalyst and Archewell. There were few sightings of Harry beyond his meetings and work events, but paparazzi did catch him visiting East Side Ink. Page Six dutifully reported that Harry was in the tattoo parlor for about an hour, and that he arrived with an assortment of private security and NYPD officers (plainclothes). Some wondered if Harry got a tattoo in honor of his 40th birthday. But no – he was filming a bit for the upcoming Invictus Games. This was the announcement that Jelly Roll will perform at Invictus Vancouver/Whistler.

It’s a really cute skit/video. While Jelly Roll is close to 40 years old, he’s only had a big, mainstream breakout over the past three years. He used to be a rap artist, no joke, but now he does country/pop. He’s known for having tattoos all over his face and body, so I imagine this was something he worked out with Invictus and Harry – let’s do a promo at a tattoo parlor! Harry is very good at these kinds of things. A natural actor, a natural presence on-camera.

I didn’t get a chance to post Harry’s full interview on the field at the Grey Cup game on Sunday:

    LOVE it!!!

    • Yes it was really a very good video. The leftovers should take notes on how that is done. It was as all about Invictus and Harry and Jellyroll were great.

    • Friendly Crow says:

It’s been a hard stretch in America.

I haven’t laughed like that in a while. Harry is always so funny while also being genuine and authentic.

I’m so glad that we are getting to see so much more of him – the serious side, the funny side, the empathetic side, the mischievous side. He really has been able to show the world who he is by showing the world what he stands for. And he (and M of course) stand for such incredible things.

    • B says:

It was so funny. Harry’s “oh shit” at the end when he saw Jelly Roll’s name on his neck made me laugh out loud.

  2. Hypocrisy says:

This was cute.. made me laugh and I actually know who Jelly Roll is thanks to the Tracy Chapman duo they sung. It’s always a good day when the Sussex’s are outside🤗.. the one thing I am looking forward to in the new year is the Invictus Games.

    • SarahLee says:

That wasn’t Jelly Roll singing with Tracy Chapman. That was Luke Combs. Jelly Roll has a big hit right now called I am Not OK. He’s got some good country/pop jams, though. Check him out!

    • Jais says:

Iirc, jelly roll was in the audience during that performance and the camera panned out to him singing along to Chapman and Combs singing Fast Car. He was very into it.

      • Hypocrisy says:

I probably should have been clearer in my comment and yes I did have to text my son to get a name, then videos followed. He is talented.

    • FHmom says:

Jelly Roll is also a Trump supporter. Hard pass.

      • Lawrenceville says:

Jelly Roll is a Trump supporter, but in this context, he is about the IG and he is promoting the games. That should be the take away from this, period. Trump has absolutely nothing to do with it.

  3. Lili says:

The skit was really funny, but its even funnier knowing all the speculation surrounding the visit

  4. Kindness says:

I know people will have issues but invictus isn’t about politics. Jelly roll is supporting invictus. Why not and I think it’s amazing

    • Christine says:

No, I am with you, the hilarious juxtaposition of Jelly Roll and Prince Harry was a very careful straddling of a line that few can pull off right now.

On a completely superficial note, Harry’s beard is perfectly groomed for all this attention, and I hope William realizes his will never do this. I am tired of the molting on his face.

    • Lawrenceville says:

@Kindness, thanks so much. I posted before reading your post. People need to please stop, IG is about our service women and men and their families and support networks, that’s it. IG is not a political organization and people need to please not start making IG about Trump or any of his supporters. In this context, JR is promoting the IG, that’s all that matters and actually should count. Like our women and men in uniform, many of whom are of whichever political affiliation but when it comes to the IG they come to it as a family, so it should remain. No politics please.

  5. Nanea says:

Funny idea, and even more funny how that YouTuber Martin Branning aka Maria Joseph was performatively fuming about Harry, security, paparazzi… when there are so many Leftovers he could be talking about instead.

  6. GMH says:

Every time either of the Sussexes ventures out in public they put thr royal left behinds and their handlers to shame. H&M never do anything that does not tie into a strategy. There is no doubt this is because they spend good money for expert advisors. The old guard inthe UK continue to rely on inept courtiers and have a mess on their hands. Had they the good sense to recognize Meghan’s experience and expertise, which I suspect QE2 did, the monarchy might not be on life support as it is now.

    • sunnyside up says:

She couldn’t be allowed to outshine Kate.

    • Not A Subject says:

TOOOOOO funny how the British Media tries to insist nobody likes Harry and Meghan. They are so service oriented and loved by Americans (and internationally). They are actually relatable. England can keep the stank breath Windsors and their constant treachery and drama.

    • Lawrenceville says:

And notice how Prince Harry’s movements in NY all remained unknown except the tattoo parlor visit. LOL, Harry knows these tabloid media like nothing else. He knew when to appear and be seen, LOL. He, as always, baited them and they fell for it hook, line and sinker……..just……genius.

  7. Ginger says:

This video was cute! Harry just has “it”. He did a great job and is really funny!

  8. Christine says:

This was so well done, I am not embarrassed to admit I have already watched it more than tens of times. Jelly Roll playing the closing ceremonies in Vancouver is HUGE, and sure to bring in a wider audience.

I am so impressed with IG, this is a brilliant way to bring attention to the Games to an already pro-veteran crowd that may have become…objectionable since 2016. Invictus tries to be completely non-politcal, but let’s face it, that is a Herculean task these days.

Jelly Roll’s I Am Not Okay is exactly the message Invictus is striving to bring to the veterans. This is a brilliant pairing, I cannot wait for Vancouver!

    • Lili says:

i’d never heard of Jelly roll before last night so i went on to you tube to listen to a selection of his songs and settled “I’m not okay” as well so i bought that off itunes

  9. SueBarbri33 says:

Harry is so natural and charming. I’m glad he got away.

  10. sevenblue says:

OMG, I didn’t think much about the tattoo parlor visit before. I can’t believe it was for a skit for Invictus and the tabloid reporters didn’t know sh*t about it even though they captured his exit. I wish he got a tramp stamp 😂😂

  11. SarahLee says:

That wasn’t Jelly Roll singing with Tracy Chapman. That was Luke Combs. Jelly Roll has a big hit right now called I am Not OK. He’s got some good country/pop jams, though. Check him out!

  12. Eurydice says:

“What is THAT?!!” So funny. He really is a natural.

  13. Inge says:

Oh how I love Harry, that was hilarious. Have now bought two songs from Jelly Roll on itunes.

Also kudos to everyone keeping it a secret including the tattoo parlor!

  14. Steph says:

This is hilarious. I’ve never had a tattoo before. How long does the transfer ink stay on? Cuz it just have been cleared before he left since he was being stalked. That would have been hilarious if it wasn’t b the BM would have been in shambles.

    • HeatherC says:

Transfer ink is a lot like those “tattoos” we used to get as kids, you know the ones where you rub or wet a sticker thing and put it on your skin. He could have wiped it off with an alcohol wipe easily before he left.

      • Steph says:

        Thanks @Heatherc!

After my initial comment I’m kinda surprised no one noticed a camera crew but I’m the she of sm, that can be so minimally.

  15. Jais says:

This is cute. And Jelly Roll seems like a great pairing for IG. Excited for Vancouver!

  16. Miranda says:

LOVE. But “nobody wants to see [Harry’s] ass”? Patently false. 😂🤣

  17. Barbara says:

    I died at Harry’s, “Oh, shit!” 😂

    • Hypocrisy says:

lol me too.. I also wonder just how many people asked that tattoo artist exactly what Prince Harry stopped there for.. great job keeping the secret 🤫.

  18. Bumblebee says:

Oh, that was fun. Harry is such a natural at this job. He proves every day that bloodlines and inheritance rules are BS. If he and his brother had to interview and compete fairly for the Prince position, Harry would be the heir by a landslide.

  19. RumandSprite says:

Sorry, but this is cringe. Fan of Harry but this was just off, and not funny. Cringe level = Huevo dancing at Taylor Swift. These people are all so awkward and cringe. Did I say cringe?

    • ThatGirlThere says:

Okay Willy, relax and go shave off that beard.

    • Judy says:

@RumanandSprite Poor you being so uptight that you think this cute little video is cringe. You must not get out much. It’s hard to believe you’re a Harry fan.

    • Jais says:

Huh. Different tastes then. I thought both Harry and jellyroll were super cute in this. For me, it wasn’t too cringey and def not equal to William dad dancing. But at least Willaim was dad dancing with his kids at a concert that time instead of at a ski lodge in verbier without his wife or kids😂

    • Eurydice says:

I didn’t think William’s dad dancing was cringe. Cringe is when he tries to be something he’s not, but he’s most definitely an awkward dad and it’s kind of endearing when he accepts that.

    • BeanieBean says:

Eh, I thought it was cute. Who are ‘these people’? It’s not as though Prince Harry regularly runs around with Jelly Roll.

  20. Jensa says:

    He’s so good at this.
I can’t wait to see PW try something similar (as he is always trying to copy Harry) – I think that could also be funny, but for very different reasons.

  21. Blithe says:

In a month when I’ve found precious little to laugh about, this got me. Thanks Harry!!!!

Like many, I love that the tabloids reported Harry’s visit to the tattoo shop — and Harry just left the story floating out there so that Invictus could benefit from the buzz. Nice of the tabs to finally do something useful. lol

  22. ThatGirlThere says:

I didn’t know what to expect but this was fun. Harry is a natural isn’t he?

  23. Harla says:

I loved this video and as many have said, only Harry could pull this off is such a fantastic way!!!

    Good King Harry indeed!!

  24. Naur says:

Man jelly roll is a lying trumper and his wife was making a pod cast and interviews about that murderer wade being “sexy” so noooooope none of it is cute

    • BeanieBean says:

Oh, crapola! You just took all the good feeling away.

      • Naur says:

I’m not taking responsibility for no man’s actions or anyone’s reactions to information everrrr no thank you ha

    • Kitten says:

Ugh yeah he’s a major Trumper and was all over Kid Rock, Trump and all those other weirdos at that UFC game.

It’s always interesting to see how people draw a red line with certain celebs based on their politics and not others around here.

      • MsIam says:

First of all, @kitten, UFC is not a game, it is a fight. Second, there is a picture of Jelly Roll shaking hands with Trump, should he have spit in his face? Since Trump will become president, you will see lots of folks shaking hands no doubt. Look at Joe Biden. Doesn’t mean they are Trumpers. Jelly Roll said that since he is a convicted felon, he is not able to vote at all so he does not support any candidate, dem or republican.

  25. Little Red says:

    Perfect! Loved it.

  26. wolfmamma says:

Yay for Invictus and Kudos for Harry .. your portfolio of talents just keeps growing.
O BP and KP … you’ve really lost the best one

  27. Beverley says:

Harry has some acting chops! Comedy isn’t easy.

  28. Jeannie says:

I maybe wouldn’t have found this so cringe if Jelly wasn’t such a Trump supporter and hanging with Musk and such lately. I wonder how he got Harry in with his literal active campaigning for Trump over the last few months.

    • tamsin says:

This was filmed in September during UNGA week before the results of the election? Invictus should non-political (as much as anything can be these days) so cancelling would be making a political statement. I’m sure there are Trump supporters among veterans as there are Tory supporters amongst the British vets.

      • Nerd says:

Thank you for emphasizing how the Invictus Games are not political because their focus is on all veterans and their families, regardless of anyone’s political affiliation. We have no idea what any of the participants, performers or supporters views are regarding politics because that has never been important to the Invictus Games cause. Bringing his assumed political stance into the conversation is no different than people who were on the live Invictus Games stream complaining about their relationship with their family members. It is to bring negativity to a space what is meant to bring people together in support of veterans and their families everywhere, regardless of their political views or stance of certain issues. Sometimes we choose to find fault at times when celebration and inclusion should be the only option. It was a hilarious skit and it makes me appreciate that Harry has gone above and beyond to create the Invictus Games to help all veterans and their families globally.

      • Christine says:

Well said, Nerd! This is the first Invictus winter games, and it’s going to be awesome. It’s going to be a bright light of positivity, and shitting on it in any way is to take away from what the veterans are doing. Let’s just not, how about that?

    • ArtFossil says:

Jelly Roll smiled at Trump at UFC 309 on November 16. They were not there together.

And this makes Jelly Roll “such a Trump supporter” “with literal active campaigning for Trump”?

      LOL.

  29. Jaded says:

Harry is so good at taking the piss out of himself, no false pride there!

  30. Melissa says:

No mention that Jelly Roll was out partying with Elon and Kid Rock the other day? That’s the big Jelly Roll story rn

    • ArtFossil says:

      Invictus. Invictus. Invictus.

I’m grateful to Jelly Roll for his support of Invictus. He will bring a lot of attention to the games.

    • MsIam says:

People didn’t have a problem with Taylor Swift hanging out with the Mahomes. And she endorsed Kamala Harris. Plus this was filmed in September, not the other day. It’s not Harry or Invictus job to police Jelly Roll, as long as he is not engaged in criminal behavior. Obnoxious behavior is not illegal.

    • Camomile says:

Who are all these new names suddenly here mentioning kid rock and Trump? Gee whizz that’s shocks me (not).

It’s brilliant tapping into JR market for invictus. Plenty of vets would be Trump supporters and Trump will be president so…

  31. Anonymous says:

No one mentioned Martin Henderson (Virgin River) at the beginning of the video? The guy who directed one episode of Suits and was full of praise for Meghan? Did he direct this video, too?

I laughed so hard, watched it a dozen times already. Harry is quite talented! Never heard of Jerry Roll, will have to google his support for tRump (ewww, why?)

Can we please give kudos to the owner of the Tattoo studio? He was beleaguered by British media trying to find out if Harry got a tat, and didn’t say a word! I am sure they offered money but he didn’t budge.

Great advertising for IG, after Harry showing up to the Grey Cup, his meeting with children, with indigene people, this was the cherry on top.

  32. L4Frimaire says:

This was such a funny video. Love how there ate never any leaks from Team Sussex and the UK press end up looking ridiculous. Harry always goes all out to promote Invictus and clearly loves it! He has a way of connecting with people of all backgrounds. Not big into country but Jelly Roll is a very good performer. Was joking with my husband that Prince Harry is more qualified to be US Secretary of Defense than 47 current nominee. IG25 will be a bright spot to look forward to for 2025. Go Harry!

  33. Kingston says:

In Spare (Section 3, Chapter 7) during the week when H&M were in Botswana on their third date 🙂 he recalled that both Chelsea and Cressida often talked about his “Jekyll-and-Hyde” existence in which he was “Happy Spike,” in Botswana and “tightly wound Prince Harry” in the UK. And he said he had never been able to synthesize the two and it had always bothered him.

But, he said, with M, he believed he would be able to be “Happy Spike all the time.” In fact, from their first night in Botswana, there was a drumbeat in his head saying: “She’s perfect….she’s perfect….she’s perfect.”

Its so obvious now to everyone that, since 2020, he has successfully managed to synthesize the two parts of himself and is “Happy Harry” wherever in the world he is.

I really love this for him and for M, without whom, he said in the Acknowledgements section of Spare, “most things would be impossible.”

  34. ObticalFusion says:

Bad optics. Jelly Roll’s a Trumper, who recently posed with Musk and Kid Rock.

    • Kingston says:

I’m sure youll be able to find trumpers and other extremists views within the Invictus Community. Fortunately, its not a place where partisan politics is allowed to rear its head.

    • Camomile says:

Another new name.. Shock horror I am surprised! /s

Who is it bad optics for by the way?

You’re all posting the same talking points. KP must have put out the script for y’all.

  35. Jonah says:

He is so gross. Come on. The cursing. The facial expressions. What does this have to do with invictus?? Maybe they should actually start paying for the athletes instead of this bs
