Prince Harry will attend the NYT DealBook Summit solo, while Meghan will be in LA

Yesterday, the New York Times announced the speakers for their annual DealBook Summit, which will happen at the Lincoln Center next Wednesday (December 4). Prince Harry was listed among other world leaders, cultural leaders and business leaders. We still don’t know what Harry will discuss – perhaps BetterUp, or his memoir, or Invictus – but it’s amazing that he was asked and that he accepted. Unfortunately, December 4th is also the date for Tyler Perry’s Paley Center Honor ceremony. Meghan and Harry signed on to honor their friend Tyler Perry months ago. So how will they coordinate this?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle both have planned appearances next week — albeit on separate coasts.

The Duke of Sussex, 40, will join Andrew Ross Sorkin for a conversation at The New York Times DealBook Conference on Wednesday, Dec. 4 in New York City, according to a spokesperson. Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, the Duchess of Sussex, 43, is expected to attend the 2024 Paley Honors Fall Gala the same day, where she’ll help honor Tyler Perry with The Paley Honors Award, which is The Paley Center for Media’s highest honor. While both Harry and Meghan were on the hosting committee for their friend Perry, only Meghan will attend the event.

In his appearance alongside Sorkin, Harry is actually following in Meghan’s footsteps. In November 2021, Meghan was interviewed by Sorkin as part of The New York Times DealBook Online Summit, where she joined a conversation called “Minding the Gap” about how women can reach economic and professional parity.

[From People]

It makes sense that two busy people would occasionally have events on the same day on separate coasts. The Tyler Perry-Paley Center honor has been on the books for months, as I said, and I feel like the DealBook invitation probably came after it was already penciled in. But clearly, Harry wanted the platform and boost of the NY Times, and I can’t find fault with that. It is important for him to be in those circles and in that world. Meghan can represent Team Sussex at the Paley Center. The only reason that this makes me mad is that the British papers won’t go with the angle of “Harry and Meghan are super-busy and Harry is a mover-and-shaker.” They’ll go with the angle of “Harry and Meghan’s [professional] SEPARATION continues!”

Makes sense to me both would attend their events . Harry in New York and Meghan in LA. Was hoping to see them both honoring the man who means so much to them but I get it and support their choice. Pretty sure Tyler Perry gets this as well. The gutter gutless UK press can wail until they are blue in the face, we know who is a couple and who is estranged.

  2. Jan says:

Adults taking care of business, these guys are both hard workers.
I don’t think they care what the Tabloids say about them, and they actions prove it.

  3. Beth says:

As Tyler Perry is also Lili’s godfather, I’d like to think that even our UK tabloids will see that one of the Sussexes should be there. Although I expect to be disappointed. Yet again.

    • Mightymolly says:

That’s right! He’s Lili’s godfather. He didn’t know them yet when Archie was born. I love this relationship so much. Tyler’s work doesn’t always speak to me, but his humanity does.

  4. Nanea says:

I’m happy for H&M to be in demand, and I’m sure they have regular contact with TP anyway.

Even if I would have loved to see them dazzling together, all dressed up.
    *pouts*

Meanwhile the Derangers are gleefully yelling “separation”, “divorce”, golddigger, grifter and more of the same — on that platform we all eXited from more or less recently.

Wonder why. *cough* FakeyKatie, tiaras, intermittent cancer *cough*, state dinner somethingorother.

    • L4Frimaire says:

I really hate these nasty comments about the Sussexes as we’ve seen the increase in their output and projects. Sometimes can’t be in two places and focusing on different things at once. Also, calling Meghan names is just disgusting, sexist and dishonest. She already participated in the Dealbook Summit, clearly has a lot going on in her sphere as well, so let them speculate. Better than becoming a fossil sidelined by lies and protocol. She doesn’t get nearly enough credit for what they’ve accomplished as a team.

    • Julia says:

They yell that everyday, no matter what Harry and Meghan do. Even when they are happily dancing and kissing in Colombia the trolls are still yelling ‘divorce, fake, Harry is trapped…’ Why bother to look at what they are saying anymore? They are in an echo chamber and the wider world has far more important things to care about…

  5. Becks1 says:

Tyler Perry is a professional and I’m sure he knows how hard it is sometimes to feel like you need to split the baby, so to speak. I’m sure he was advised of this change before the Dealbook summit was announced and I’m sure he understands.

The British press of course will pretend they don’t understand but I think most people get that busy couples with demanding schedules can’t be everywhere at once.

  6. L4Frimaire says:

I really wanted to see both of them glammed up at the Paley Center so a bit disappointed about that. Meghan will do a great job and I’m sure Tyler will understand. On the other hand, the Dealbook summit is a great opportunity and recognizes Harry’s growing prestige and influence. They have both been so busy and the end of year crunch is real( as I’m working in the wee hours before heading off on Thanksgiving vacation). I love that they’re so busy and doing amazing things and will tune in to both events. I miss their energy together but hope Harry zooms into the ceremony.

  7. Amy Bee says:

Yeah, I also think the invitation to the dealbook summit came after the Paley Honours was announced. I think it’s very smart that he’s going and I suspect he was invited after he made that speech at the Clinton Global Initiative event. Of course the British press will try to paint it as Harry and Meghan going their separate ways but I think it makes sense for Harry to go to NY. He’s trying to build up his profile and his projects. I think shows that the British press don’t know what’s going on in Harry life because they were saying a few months ago that he does nothing and that he wants to return to the royal duty. Clearly that was a lie.

  8. Over it says:

Harry and Meghan are both in demand and busy, meanwhile wank the small r willy and buttons McMuffin are off in the wind doing nothing as usual. The British media should be more concerned about why they pay so much for zero to nothing in return

  9. sevenblue says:

I really doubt H&M care about what more the tabloids will write about their marriage. They were also writing Harry was staying at hotels, because they were getting divorce. They are gonna write the same things whether H&M attend events together or not. The event Harry signed on is important both for BetterUp and Archewell Foundation. He has a good team behind him to catch opportunities like that. Tyler Perry is part of their family according to what I have read from Spare. I am sure he wouldn’t want Harry to miss this opportunity.

  10. Dee(2) says:

Ah well that makes sense, I was hoping to see them a little snazzed up but I get it. Plus, it makes sense from a business standpoint to go to the event where you can network and not necessarily the one where you’re honoring your friend. This is probably going to be the new normal for them though, burst of activity for a few days then they’re both off the radar for a week or two then a burst of activity again. Make sense though and is a good way to make sure that someone is always with their kids whether it’s Harry or Meghan. And the tabloids are going to tabloid, because they can’t very well say wow Harry and Meghan both have something to do every single week and we don’t see William and Kate for weeks or months on end.

  11. Ginger says:

I feel like Harry will be doing some promo for his polo doc while he is in NYC (hopefully)

The British press will be going after their marriage now until the end of time. There is nothing they can do about it. Since Harry is currently suing the British press they will go in even harder. People with at least 2 working brain cells know their marriage is fine and that the other couple is not.

  12. Mads says:

Maybe Harry has a pre-recorded piece that will be shown at the Tyler Perry event?
No matter what Harry and Meghan do, either together or separately, the UK media has its negative agenda firmly in place; they have only seen a brief trailer for “Polo” and that’s already created another slew of disparaging articles 🤷‍♀️

  13. Tessa says:

The bots wanted them to divorce even before the wedding ceremony.

  14. Tessa says:

And if they show up together there is a launch into his not looking happy
    Same old

    • Julia says:

Normal people are already tired of the ‘they are separating/getting a divorce’ narrative. It only works for a limited amount of time then regular people realise it’s just tabloids making stuff up with no supporting evidence. The only people still invested in that narrative are sad trolls and tabloid journalists. Nobody sensible believes it anymore. So best just to ignore. The longer the speculation goes on the stupider those speculating about it look.

  15. Moniquep says:

First, we still don’t know if Harry will be zooming in for the NY event.
Second, H&M are still at a stage where they are building their life and business foundation, and they have to do what’s best for that process. As more people recognize the work they are doing and they become more established, they can chill and enjoy the ride. I’m pretty sure Tyler P fully understands this and would be advising them to do just that.

Yeah, yeah, yeah the dumb azzes on sewer island will jump on this like vultures on dead carcass, but the world can see the trajectory that H&M are on.
Meanwhile, who’s inviting Willy Wonka to do anything of any significance???

    • L4Frimaire says:

They really are the most scrutinized couple in the world. Constant speculation no matter what they do. How they deal with this day to day, while trying to raise their little kids and just live their life with a semblance of privacy takes a lot of fortitude.

  16. Julie says:

With a3 hours time difference, it would be hard, but not impossible for Harry to attend both. After all, he did a coronation and a Archie birthday in a span of 24 hours. 🙂

  17. L says:

Maybe he will be in NY in the morning and fly back to TP event in the afternoon. It’s totally doable

  18. Catherine says:

The “professional separation” narrative is only living amongst the typical haters. Ignore it. I have noticed that even amongst the haters many are not fully embracing it. And even among the worst of the worst many are no longer trying to claim that it is a sign of personal difficulties. Even Royston/Newsweek noted the change in tone. The narrative is failing. They look stupid. They tried this before when Harry was promoting his book. Coincidently, When Meghan did this event in 2021, Harry had an interview the same day with Wired. Harry and Meghan have also separately announced things on the same day. Lastly, do we know for sure that Harry isnt going to be at the Paley event. Given the time difference and depending on when he speaks he could fly back for it, I don’t consider People an impeccable source. Remember, they claimed he wasn’t going to his Uncle funeral. But even if he doesn’t attend the Paley event. I’m going to enjoy the fact that the Sussexes will be taking care of business as well as celebrating a friend not paying attention to the tabloid take on it.

    • Harla says:

@Catherine, I was wondering too if Harry would be able to fly back and be at the Paley event, I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

  19. YeahRight says:

Married couples aren’t joined at the hip. It’s ridiculous to expect them to do everything together.

  20. Harla says:

I’m so excited that we’re going to see Meghan at a fancy event!! I’ve really missed seeing her in lovely gowns and stunning jewelry! And having Meghan at the event to honor Tyler Perry is so fitting as she was the one who first reached out to him, told him her fears and struggles, he was a true friend to her and Harry when they needed it the most.

  21. HeatherC says:

OMG next week my SO is flying out of state to attend a conference. Should I be worried?

    *sarcasm for the uninitiated

    • Harla says:

The horror!! Please lie down on your fainting couch and I’ll run for the smelling salts!! I can’t believe that your SO would dream of leaving your side for one moment, how ever will you cope??

    • Debbie says:

Well, in the meanwhile, I’ll be here clutching my pearls tightly. /s.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

HeatherC, I say double down on it. Have a girls night out while your SO is away. 😉

  22. MiraclesHappen says:

It takes 5- 6 hrs to get from NY to Los Angeles… So if the NY event (which is 3 hrs time differents) is in the morning, he might be able to make it on time.

  23. Nic919 says:

This is coming from UK tabloids and page six and it is of course projection for the other couple. They are silent when someone skips a diplomatic reception to work on a Carol concert already set up by staff. Or when no reason at all is given to miss a state banquet.

  24. Grant says:

She is so beautiful. I love, love, love this dress!
