This is Rihanna on Saturday night, at Clive Davis’s annual pre-Grammy party. Last year, it was after Clive’s party that Chris Brown beat the hell out of Rihanna – so many media outlets ran stories about Rihanna – One Year Later. Personally, if everyone was going to be writing about me and I knew it, I would try not to look like a puffy Poodle. But that’s just me.
Maybe Rihanna thought everyone was going to be talking about her, but at the actual party, Rihanna’s thunder got stolen by none other than Barbara Streisand. Gatecrasher has more:
Barbra Streisand’s happy days are here again: The legendary songstress was all the talk Saturday night at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party at the Beverly Hilton in L.A.
Although Rihanna — who had her scary altercation with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown right after Davis’ 2009 event — arrived at the bash all smiles and in an outlandish turquoise number, the 67-year-old Babs stole the show.
“It’s rare for Barbra to show up to pre-Grammy parties, so this was a huge surprise,” a music insider tells us. “No one could stop talking about her being there. Everyone thought that all eyes would be on Rihanna, but no one could care less after Barbra showed up.”
The reason for her presence was twofold: The fete celebrated Universal Music bigwig Doug Morris, a longtime pal of Streisand’s, and we hear she’s about to make a big return to the pop music scene.
On the heels of her No. 1 album “Love Is the Answer,” which was released in September, Streisand (above with Davis) is rumored to have signed up for Quincy Jones’ highly anticipated rendition of “We Are the World.”
The famous producer would only hint that she’d be joining, but he did confirm that he’s aiming to record the track this week. While Babs is sure to be the headlining name on it (all proceeds will go toward the relief effort in Haiti), Jones confirmed that Smokey Robinson will lend his vocals, and dropped another hint — that fans may get to hear the crooning of wacky songstress Lady Gaga.
But not even that name, nor a little diva-esque moment from Mary J. Blige, could detract much from the Babs buzz.
Blige made a scene when, ironically, she was about to perform “No More Drama” for the A-list crowd. While Jane Fonda (who’s dating veteran music producer Richard Perry), Jon Bon Jovi and Leonardo DiCaprio watched, Blige reportedly told her musicians to stop and angrily demanded, “Can we get the right music for Mary J. Blige?”
Performers who seemed a little more graced by Streisand’s presence included Jennifer Hudson, who performed “People” and “The Way We Were” in the legend’s honor.

This has nothing to do with the Clive Davis party, but some people were wondering if the little boy that Jay-Z and Rihanna brought up when they won a Grammy was their love child. For real? My first theory was that it was some relative of Jay-Z’s or Beyonce’s, and my second theory was that this was the ever-gossiped about alleged lovechild Jay had with some random woman several years ago. Anyway, it turns out the kid is Beyonce’s nephew Julez, the son of Solange. Julez and Jay seem tight, so that was really sweet and cool of Jay to bring him up.
she’s got a great body but all that drapery does her ass no favors. she looks like donald duck in that bottom picture.
I’ve taken to calling this dress the Hideous Organza Origami dress. LOL.
I think Rihanna’s outfits are wild and fun, and she’s young enough to get away with it. I’ll criticize her if she’s still dressing like this when she’s thirty-something, maybe. For now, she SHOULD be rocking the experimental fashion.
I can’t help but notice that she gets a lot of flack for her weird get-ups, and yet people just keep loving on Gaga. I don’t understand the difference.

Rihanna isn’t trying to look conventional. She’s going for something rather distinctive, so the dresses fit her current presentation style. The more important story here is that Streisand gets more attention, IMO, as it should be. She’s an icon, a living legend, and by far the most accomplished and nuanced singer in the room.
The first dress was awful. I love Placido Domingo and Mos Def so I thought that was cool. HOWEVER the way they accepted the award, I felt like I was at a high school awards banquet. It was ridiculous and since when are shoes called “dunks”? That whole thing was a WTF moment for me.
I hate what Ri wears. you really cant compare her to Gaga. At the very least, Gaga imagines, creates, and has a rhyme to her really weird reason. Ri just wears whatever she paid too much for and isnt very consistent with her ‘fashion’ choices. To me, Gaga is just superior all around.
And, to me, Gaga kinda reminds me of Selena. You know, just sitting a round on her down time designing outfits and fashion ideas and having a good time with it. I know they’re two different genres and styles, but the evocation is there.
What the fuck is that thing she’s wearing? It’s like the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen.
Doesn’t anyone understand the dress? At the pre-grammy party last year she wore a dress with those similar colors. Now this year its a effed up looking dress with those same colors…I guess its symbolic.
Ugly dress but she can wear what she wants. And yes she can get away with it now because of her age. I wish she would wear her hair in a softer close to the head style that would accentuate her pretty face.
Um, Celebitchy, you need a better headline editor because Ms. Streisand spells her name “Barbra” not “Barbara.” The Gatecrasher report spelled it correctly, but you did not.
She looks better in sleek sexy cloths if you ask me. That little boy was so cute!!!! They looked like a little family walking up to receive their Grammy and I wondered what B was thinking at the time…
She’s young enough to be risky although that dress is ugly I can’t see anyone dressing like she does and pulling it off
Is anyone ever gonna admit that Rihanna can’t freakin’ SING? why does no one say this out loud? auto-tune mess, not to mention her scary/sad ensembles of the past year – good lord. she’s gorgeous, tall, and highly overpaid. Barbra earned her props.

@whateva: Amen. I never saw what all the fuss was about, it seemed that Rhanna was more a marketing creation of Jay-Z than aynthing else. Barbra Streisand is a real phenomenon. At least in a dress like that Rihanna won’t have to ask anybody for a kleenex if she neezes.
I don’t get the fascination people have with her. She is singularly unattractive, IMHO. Her hair looks terrible and she always has an expression on her face that suggests she smells something objectionable.
Add to that her terrible, awful, horrible fashion “sense,” and you get a complete train wreck.
I guess there’s something about her that I just don’t see.
I would like to add that I think that the difference between Gaga and Rhianna is not in the costumes themselves. It’s that Gaga’s fashion, whether you like it or not, fits into the context of the massive artistic ouevre that she’s trying to envision and at least has legitimate talent to soften the crazy costumes. Rhianna is just a glorified fashion model that has to continue to dress eccentrically because someone realizes that that’s really all the mediocre thing has going for her. See, if her get-ups are loud enough they drown out the abysmal singing.
