Angelina Jolie visited the LA firefighters & her kids are volunteering

Angelina Jolie, like the Duchess of Sussex, is a native Angeleno. Both women were born and raised in Los Angeles, and both women were and are actresses who find fulfillment outside of Hollywood. And both women have been trying to help out their hometown during one of the largest natural disasters in California’s history. Guess which one is getting more sh-t about it? Yeah, you already know. Angelina was seen out in LA several days ago, picking up supplies which she and Knox probably dropped off at a relief center. She also said that she’s invited evacuees to stay at her Los Feliz home. Now People Mag has this exclusive:

Angelina Jolie and her six children are volunteering and helping as wildfires continue to rage in Southern California, a source tells PEOPLE.

“Her kids are volunteering around the state, asking for what’s needed and jumping in,” a source close to Jolie says Monday, Jan. 13. “She went to see the firefighters at the Rose Bowl and is close to the team at World Central Kitchen,” which the source says Jolie first connected with while visiting Ukraine in May 2022.

Jolie is mom to Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and 16-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox, and she spent 20 years working with the United Nations to help refugees displaced by war.

“Overall she is trying to listen and follow and not get in anyone’s way,” the source says of Jolie’s efforts to help those affected by the wildfires, which began on Jan. 7. “She knows what’s important is to bring supplies and donate and fall in line. She isn’t posting or announcing efforts. Just trying to listen and learn.”

A source told PEOPLE last week that the actress opened her home to friends who evacuated their own houses in the L.A. area after the wildfires broke out.

Local authorities reported on Jan. 12 that the death toll in the wildfires increased to 24, while at least 16 people have been reported missing. The fires have reportedly grown into one of the most destructive in L.A. history.

“Angie is heartbroken for those who have lost their homes or are impacted by the fires,” that source said. “She’s doing everything she can to help, even opening her home to friends who were forced to evacuate.”

“She went to see the firefighters at the Rose Bowl and is close to the team at World Central Kitchen” – and photographers apparently didn’t see her. I get that Angelina isn’t trying to make it about herself and what she’s doing, but I actually think she should use her social media and her name to talk about where to donate and what resources people can provide. Even just putting some links to the LA Wildfire Relief Fund and World Central Kitchen would make a difference! But yeah, I’m not criticizing her, I’m just saying that people should stop worrying about the optics and just help out and provide links and ask people to donate.

There were pics of Shilioh and Knox loading up truck with supplies a day before the pics of Angelina and Knox were circulating. It was all over twitter.

It’s a darn if you do and darn if you don’t, when it comes to using your celebrity status to help out. Paris Hilton opened up a go fund me, in which she also donated a significant amount already, and a promise to match up additional donations, and she got criticized for it. Yes, using your status for awareness is good, but being on the ground to help personally, especially as a family unit as the Jolies are, is good too.

Of all the things in the world, why would anyone be mad that Paris is putting her money where her mouth is?

    • Josephine says:

Paris working with a charity that has good transparency and solid financials. Too many of these quick “fundraisers” have unclear recipients and no accountability. Hers appears to be very thoughtful and secure. But I do think the knee-jerk reaction to “gofundme” is not positive because there is no accountability or guarantee as to where the money is going. So maybe that is what people responded to.

  3. Lisa says:

Of course no one will condemn her for volunteering like the did Harry and Meghan! It just drives me crazy that the Sussexs can’t ever do anything without criticism!

  4. Deborah says:

Sometimes just quietly getting on with it instead of announcing the optics is the action plan.

Angelina., with the patience of a saint.

She and Knox were literally loading supplies from a grocery run-I assume for her house guests!- into her car and some reporter got up in her face. I think this was Sunday? She handled it well.

I think flying under the radar is the way to go. She has shown up for World Central Kitchen, so that’s an endorsement right there.

Anyone flashing “celebrity” right now is not going to be well received.

  6. Jais says:

Good for her and her kids. Good for Meghan. These fires suck. Trump and maga suck. Musk and Zuckerberg suck. Just having little patience for bs performative outrage today. Maybe I’ll come back stronger tomorrow😂
