Prince Edward & Sophie are on a six-day tour of Nepal & they held hands

Prince William and Kate are not the only royal family members who have been suspiciously busy in the past month. Prince Edward and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, have also been out and about a lot. Not that many people are paying attention! Speaking of, Edward and Sophie have been in Nepal this week. They’re on a real royal tour together, after mostly doing events and traveling separately in recent years. I’m including photos from “Day 3” of their tour in this post. Sophie and Edward are apparently spending six days in Nepal, and before this tour, Edward was in India solo for four days? I did not see anything about that.

I know my point is usually “no one pays attention to poor Sophie and Ed,” but this Nepalese tour is getting some attention in the UK. It’s because Edward and Sophie briefly held hands as they were walking down some steps at the Godawari National Botanic Garden. Sophie wore a maxi dress and Edward chivalrously helped his wife down the steps, from the look of it. This has given us many headlines about Sophie and Ed’s “rare PDA” and “strong marriage after 25 years.” For what it’s worth, their marriage seems stable-ish, although I often see people speculating that they live very separate lives. Which is actually considered “successful” by royal standards.

Incidentally, in some of the coverage of the Edinburghs’ tour, they’re claiming that this is the first royal tour of Nepal since King Charles was there in 1998. That is false. Prince Harry was in Nepal for a week in the spring of 2016. They’re really trying to write Harry out of the Windsors’ history completely.

Gasp! But isn’t that breaking royal protocol!

I remember Harry’s tour. He was very popular, and did he not stay to help with rebuilding a school after the earthquake. He was also at some event in support of girls/women’s rights, I believe, or am I confusing different tours?

It’s a gentlemanly gesture to offer an arm or hand to assist a lady when walking up or down steps. Remember Tom Cruise assisting Kate in this way at the Top Guns Maverick film premiere ? William looked ungentlemanly, which is exactly what he is.

  3. Yawning hard here.🥱🥱

It’s only “bad” when Harry and Meghan hold hands.

  5. Athena says:

Reminds of when Kate and Tom Cruise held hands.

I am wondering as W and K are back, busier than ever, are they actually going on tour this year and maybe even hold hands or do I expect too much?

I can’t believe everything they get Sophie and Edward to do, while the Wails are refusing to work outside the radius of their helicopter. Seriously, HOW are they getting away with never doing any overseas tours?

  7. Amy Bee says:

They actually have a member of the Royal rota traveling with them. Roya Nikkhah of the Sunday Times is there.

But I wonder how he would have behaved with jecca in that scene. May be arms around her waist or shoulder, gently holding her hands… it is really cruel that he didn’t assist kate. But this how she trained him by being a mattress.

This pair are so up themselves, and yet so awful at their job. They think they’re so funny while actually being completely cringe worthy. It’s quite painful to observe.

    • Holly says:

Is Edward cringe? I was hoping he wasn’t. I haven’t seen many videos of him since the 80’s honestly, but when I was young (the 70’s and 80’s) I thought he was the handsomest of the brothers. I figured with his theatrical leanings he would know how to entertain somewhat 🤷🏽‍♀️

      • Viva says:

Yes, he is awkward and his jokes fall flat. Like most of the family, he lives in a bubble and has no idea of the realities of ordinary people and their lives. They all act as though the public should be entranced by their very presence.

I’m not surprised they were holding hands. Those stone steps look treacherous. One false move and you take a tumble!

    • Robert Phillips says:

Her falling would have gotten them more press than they have gotten in the past decade. Plus she could act like Kate and use it for at least a couple of years to keep her name in the papers.

      • Deborah1 says:

Well, as someone who suffers from mobility problems due to a freak accident, those steps would terrify me. I just get annoyed when the BM reports it as a charming PDA when the real reason Edward held her hand is safety. Sophie is 60 after all.

    Even their handholding is awkward.
