In recent weeks, I’ve seen MAGA-apologists try to say that the millions of people who voted for Donald Trump didn’t “expect” him to act this way or do these things. Trump voters absolutely cast their votes for all of this, and the MAGA apologists need to stop infantilizing this cruel, dangerous and childish cult. On Friday, something utterly predictable happened. Everyone paying attention last year knew exactly what would happen if Trump was reelected, and what that would mean for America’s century-old NATO alliances. We knew what it would mean for Ukraine, which was invaded by Russian forces in 2022. The Biden administration stood side-by-side with Ukraine and President Zelenskyy, and President Biden even made a historic visit to Kyiv in 2023 to show that Americans stand with Ukrainians. Kamala Harris made it clear that she would continue to support Ukraine 100% and continue the Biden-era policies towards Ukraine. Everyone knew that Donald Trump, Putin’s puppet, would radically change course on Ukraine.
Since Trump was reelected, many of America’s NATO allies have tried to flatter and cajole Trump into standing with Ukraine, with few results. Emmanuel Macron has been especially diligent in trying to appeal to Trump, specifically on Ukraine, in the past three months. On Friday, all of those efforts were blown up in a spectacularly humiliating, screeching, infantile tantrum from Donald Trump and JD Vance. President Zelenskyy visited the White House with his team, but without the buffer of another world leader. During the press pool in the Oval Office, things got extremely ugly between Trump, Vance and Zelenskyy.
I’ll be honest, this made me sick to my stomach to the point where I couldn’t even watch the full video. The way these two flaccid, weak, pathetic lunatics (Vance and Trump) berate one of our supposed allies. Their screeching and whining and lying… Jesus. Trump, Vance and America are global embarrassments. This was humiliating for every American, the fact that Vance and Trump behaved this way and openly spouted Kremlin talking points. It’s horrifying and revolting.
The reaction from the international community has been abject horror at what went down. Leaders from around the world publicly came out in support of Zelenskyy and Ukraine, and he sat on Twitter and thanked every single leader (just as he has thanked the United States hundreds of times in the past three years). Europe will stand with Ukraine, as will NATO. Which means that Trump will likely pull the US out of NATO any day now.
After the Trump people kicked Zelenskyy out of the White House, he flew to England. He met with Keir Starmer on Saturday, and he’s meeting with King Charles today in what will probably be a series of highly coordinated photo-ops with European leaders.

Trump and Vance acted as though they were some Mafia-like thugs on an episode of The Sopranos – truly embarrassing to our country. Our country’s loyalty to our global allies has obviously shifted from the side of good to the side of a murderous, war criminal. Make no mistake, this was a premeditated, coordinated attack, and it was evidently personal for both Vance and Trump. Vance, with his absurd accusation that Zelenskyy had “campaigned” for the other side, and Trump behaving as if he and his buddy Putin had endured so much together. Disgusting.

Watching those videos Friday made me feel physically ill, too, even more so as the GOP sycophants lined up to praise their Dear Leader for how big and strong and pretty he is. Three foreign leaders in a row (Macron, Starmer, Zelenskyy) have tried to correct his misinformation directly to his face and that is an unforgivable offense in his syphilis-ridden mind. He already hated Zelenskyy for refusing to help him cheat in the 2020 election. Donald thinks he will be remembered as the Greatest Strongest Smartest Leader Ever but over here in the real world it is Volodymyr Zelenskyy who has now stood up for his citizens against the two most powerful men in the world.
Oh, this was definitely personal for Trump since Zelenskyy refused to do his bidding in digging up dirt on Biden. It was so damn obvious.
It may have been the settling of past grievances, but I think what may have been more likely is that the us “man who would be king” never had any intention of offering any security. Instead I think the intention was to get the agreement signing over mineral rights publicly signed, sealed and delivered. That seems to have been the sole goal, to extort a country under extreme duress with limited options. I doubt there would have been any follow up agreement to offer any security after this deal was signed. I think Pre. Zelenskyy knew that, and knew he had to publicly request it, which put them on the spot because they all knew they never had any intention of honouring the agreement once they got the precious resources they wanted. So they were the ones who were exposed for the extortionists they are and tried to bully him into signing it. He was offered nothing but a vague promise so kept his resources and has risen even higher in public esteem.

I know Canadians are worried right now (and deservedly so) but they are not actually being invaded right now. They are not at war, bombs are not falling on their cities and they can walk safe in their streets. Ukraine cannot say the same and so for now they take priority.
As a Canadian, I don’t think any of us think we deserve any priority over Ukraine. But it takes little for leaders to denounce inflammatory statements. I feel terrible for my American family and friends but most of all, I feel awful for the people of Ukraine. I think the pièce de résistance was the UK’s quick arrangement to invite President Zelenskyy to meet with the King. If there is one thing the “would-be American king” craves more than anything else it’s the respect and recognition of Kings, especially it seems the BRF. To arrange an invitation on such short notice sends a strong and undeniable signal of support for Pres. As an expat, other than informing my Congressmen in the House and Senate, I really do not know what to do or how to be effective. I couldn’t get in touch with the Senator via phone, but could access the Rep. Essentially, we’re both Not Happy, my Rep isn’t going to vote for Trump stuff, I should write letters and make my opinion known, etc… Which is nice and all, but I don’t feel like it’s helping just yet to put it mildly.

Democratic Members say they do pay attention to the messages they receive and for the Republicans I hope it scares them that constituents are paying attention and do vote. Republicans from deep red districts are getting booed at town halls because of the actions of the Musk-Trump administration so keep the pressure on.

A huge percentage of Americans wages stagnated 40 years ago and have increased less than 25% while prices have doubled and tripled (or more) because of unregulated capitalist greed. Many, many people have a reason to be upset, but continue to vote for their own self destruction by supporting the Republican party regardless of their actual policies. Mangos policies are designed to wipe out the poor, disabled and elderly. Targeting ss, ssi and medicare/Medicaid while destroying all federal infrastructure is going to cause complete chaos here.
My sister is a nurse at a SNF, and most of their funding comes from Medicare/Medicaid and VA. Yesterday she was telling my dad how nervous they are if they’re going to even be able to keep the facility open if they make all these cuts. My dad told her that’s not true and where did she hear that? And then said she is just drinking the liberal kool-aid. And he refused to say anything about this horrific press conference between President Z and Crybaby 1 & Crybaby 2. I’ve never felt more ashamed and disgusted with my dad than I do now, and it hurts knowing that I’ll never be able to look at him without disappointment. I don’t think my sister and BIL (a Navy vet) ever want to see or talk to him again.
Part of the horror of the magat movement is how calculated it was in picking off so many people who needed social connections and the people who have been victimized by Republikkkan policies for generarions. In all of my life I have never felt this way. Here at CB we knew what was going to happen. I was hoping we could somehow make it through. For the first time, I am no longer sure. Certain things would have to occur. We need help. We need real leadership. And PS to those school bullies. They are so fortunate that they are who they are because Zelensky could have handled that situation in 2 minutes.
Until 1994, Ukraine was a nuclear power. The US and it’s European allies gave security guarantees in exchange for their destruction of all their nuclear weapons and materials. This is part of the reason everyone has been four square behind Ukraine. They’re not a NATO nation, but there is a security agreement. As if all of this wasn’t bad enough, The Oval Office disaster will trigger nuclear proliferation around the globe because it sent the message that giving up or not having nuclear weapons makes you incredibly vulnerable and security agreements are meaningless.
Canada is now talking about nukes because they don’t trust the US. And Canada isn’t Iran. The tech is there. It was simply not used.
So there will be nukes right there at the border sooner than Americans realize. Radiation doesn’t really care about lines on maps.
Americans need to get their asses out and protest. Chase down Vance and orange ass every single day of their lives until they are gone. He’s probably got a bunker ready to go, but millions of Americans don’t have that luxury.
The protest in Vermont was a good start. It should be like this wherever any of them go. I retired in 2014 from the federal government, after serving 25 years. I am heartsick at what’s happening to the current civil servants, but after Friday, I am almost completely demoralized. Like Kaiser, I was literally sick to my stomach watching that disaster, and was so upset that I didn’t sleep until after 6:00 yesterday morning. I am embarrassed for my government, my country, and for our allies. They now know beyond a shadow of a doubt that this government is not to be trusted, and if we ever need them, like after 9/11, we can forget it.
I am 71 years old. Never in my life did I ever dream we would be where we are, because of voters who found someone who hates all the same people they do, and who has given them permission to act out in the worst possible ways. I thought once was enough with him, but them reelecting him was worse than the first time. It showed me that we, for the most part, are done as a nation and as a world power. I was already worrying about the prospect of the cuts being made to the safety net programs, especially SS, which makes up over half my income. Now I have to worry about what might be coming as a result of that maniac isolating us and opening us up to God knows what kind of security problems as a result. I am so sorry for what this horrible creature has done to the rest of the world. It will take decades – or generations – to fix this. If we even can. It won’t happen in my lifetime.

Watching it gave me a flashback to watching the invasion of the Capitol in 2021. ‘This can’t be happening’. An utter disgrace. Trump applauds Putin, Orban, Kim and every other despot he can cosy up to; and yet Zelenskyy, leading the fight for Ukraine’s survival, gets treated like that. The only positive thing about it is that if anyone is still in denial about trump’s subservience to Putin, they are being wilfully blind. It couldn’t have been plainer.

News articles here in Australia are seriously questioning the US as a dependable ally. Even though we had sent troops do every war the USA has started, it is now abundantly clear that we can no longer assume that we can depend on USA for help if we need it.

I don’t think that Zelensky was kicked out, I think he left on his own because he didn’t sign the deal Trump wanted him to sign that would have basically stripped Ukraine of its mineral resources without receiving anything in return.
As a French person I’m ashamed that Macron literally went across the world to kiss Trump’s orange *ss for nothing. You can’t negotiate with stupid fascists, he needs to stop trying and start working with other European leaders instead. He tried to negotiate with Putin when he invaded and it was utterly useless as well.
When asked by Zelenskyy if he’d visited Ukraine, Vance sputtered something to the effect that no, but he’d read stuff on the internet. That preening as*hole should have slunk away in shame.
Instead, the rest of us felt the shame.
We’ve been flying the Ukraine flag since the war began, but now it feels like a subversive act, because our country is joining the axis of evil. My father and uncles, who fought in WWII, would not believe this. It makes me sick.
I didn’t even watch it and it’s still so upsetting. It’s useless to negotiate with Trump/Elon/Vance, they Only are thinking of their own interests. They’re running the US like an equity business/corporation, all about profits and revenues and cut anything not value to them. I try not to watch the news if I can. IMO, they’ll eventually fail and just sit back and watch karma do its work.
So do we think Putin promised Trump Greenland for this public mockery? Maybe offered a skiing lesson or tailor to Vance? Trump is one thing, but Vance is a complete joke and had no business anywhere near that room.
That being said, the deal was bad or Ukraine would have taken it. There was something unsaid – likely many things, but Zelenskyy is not stupid, he would have taken the deal despite everything if it were legitimately beneficial to Ukraine. Probably some insidious fine print.
Oh, and real leaders don’t wear suits while their people suffer. That said, I have yet to see Prez Musk in a suit, so perhaps we’re okay there.
I wonder if Putin simply praised Trump — as a fellow brilliant, strong, world leader — and offered him Crimea as a possible location for future Trump resorts? I think Vance deliberately tried to provoke both Zelenskyy and Trump, although I have no idea why he might want to do this. As others have said, I think a critical piece in this mess is that someone from the Russian news agency was present. No one made it into that room without passing through a lot of layers of security, so the appalling rudeness and deliberately provocative behavior seemed both planned — and intended for a Russian audience as well as an international one.
Like most people, I’m appalled by the behavior of Vance and Trump —and terrified with the realization that whatever they’re up to, their goals are not focused on either preserving democracy worldwide or the safety of the American people. Neither one is fit for office. Both are actively working to isolate the United States from our former allies, eroding trust, and breaking agreements that have been in place for decades, if not centuries.
