It finally happened! Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher were finally married in Paris over the weekend after a six-year engagement! Let me repeat: six-year engagement! And they were together for 2 years before that. That’s a total of eight years together! I didn’t think he was ever going to marry her. He made her convert to Judaism (or his mother made her convert, and Sacha‘s such a mama‘s boy that he does what mommy tells him), they had a daughter together (Olive, who is 2 years old), and he was still keeping Isla waiting. Apparently, their wedding ceremony was very low-key, and very few people were invited, but they notified their friends via e-mail. What the hell?

British comedian Sacha, 38, wed the Australian actress in a small Jewish ceremony last Monday, according to Aussie magazine Woman’s Day.
Isla, 34, confirmed the good news in an email to friends: “We did it — we’re married! It was the absolute best day of my life and in so many beautiful moments I missed you all so much. I thought of you as everything was happening, but Sacha and I wanted no fuss — just us!”
Sacha and Isla, who have a two-year-old daughter, Olive, have been engaged for six years. They met at a party in Sydney in 2002.

Well, congratulations to Sacha and Isla. More to Isla, because she finally at long last got that sh-t nailed down, and this is obviously a man who needs a woman with a lot of patience. Well, he got her! Am I being too harsh? Obviously, they love each other and support each other, and I think they probably had other priorities, especially after Isla gave birth to Olive. And yet… Isla comes across as a girl who likes “tradition” and I’ve always suspected she wanted to be married before she gave birth. It doesn’t really matter to me, I’m saying it mattered to her. But obviously, other things mattered a lot more to Sacha (and his mom). Well, she converted and now everything’s settled. Mazel Tov!

@Bite Me – Really? They’ve lasted 8 years before this just fine, which is longer than a lot of newly married couples stay together, especially when it comes to celebrities. I suspect they’re probably a really stable, great couple.
I don’t think either of them was dragging their feet. It’s entirely possible that they just dgaf about getting married. They were together for eight years and have a daughter. They probably feel like they’ve been married for years as it is.
As for his mother…yikes.

I was with my hubby for over 10 years b4 we gpt married and we’re still going strong.
Good for them, at least they spent time getting to know each other and must be serious.
Why the speculation? I dated my husband and started a family years before I got married, and except for the whole against God’s will, it worked perfect for us!

Yeah Kaiser, I think you’re being too harsh. I have never seen an interview where she complained or made it seem as if he was making her wait. It is the opposite, she always looks thrilled to be with him.
She chose to convert. There is nothing wrong with that.
I wonder if she ever gets cricks in her neck from always looking up?

So many couples cohabit for years, yet once they get married they break up within a 2 years or so. It’s a strange phenomenon, but it does happen so I can see Bite Me’s point.
If you want to marry someone, you usually don’t wait 8 years. Either you don’t care about marriage — in that case why bother to get married? — or you were waiting for your partner to change and finally decided to settle. Cynical? Perhaps. Am I right? Who knows..
Sometimes you’re with somebody for so long, that even though you’re not happy it becomes comfortable. There are so many people who are not happy but stay with their partner for this very reason.
It happened to second hubby and me: dated and lived together a long time. Married and divorced after 18 months. Ah, well.
Yeah, I’m with “bite me.” Based on personal experience as well, I don’t see this lasting too much longer. I predict Isla’s conversion will turn out to have been a total waste of time, energy and effort. And why on earth she’d want to be married to that un-funny, unattractive, pompous ass is beyond me.

I hate the thought of having to convert to a religion to marry someone you love, ugh!
It kills me when I see the press blaming Sacha’s mother or Judaism for the fact that it took them so long to get married. The rate of Jewish to non-Jewish intermarriage in America is about 50% with very few of the non-Jewish spouses converting. Children of intermarriage are raised in a variety of ways, but not everyone of those kids being raised as a Jew has a converted, originally non-Jewish parent. The Reform branch of Judaism accepts without conversion the children of non-Jewish women as long as they are being raised exclusively as Jews. Both the Reform and Consevative branch will convert a child without converting the mother if the mother consents. Isla did not HAVE TO convert if she didn’t want to. The kids could be raised as Jews without her.
Additionally, Isla converted in fall of 2006, before Borat came out. Sacha didn’t marry her then. They had Olive a year later. Again,no marriage. Now with Olive at nearly two and half, they get married? Because they finally solved their religious issues? I don’t buy it.
