This is Fonda after the latest round of surgery
In February, Jane Fonda admitted to having plastic surgery on her eyes, chin and neck. She’d previously vowed not to have any more work done (it’s unclear but I think she had a face lift years prior) but said she got this latest round because “I got tired of not looking like how I feel… I wanted a more refined chin line like I used to have so I changed my mind.” Fonda looks like a different person to me, and while I understand the urge to want to look like you feel it’s one you have to balance with an understanding of the capabilities of plastic surgery. One round can yield decent results, but more than that can result in a mask-like look and permanently freaky features.
The 72 year-old actress was on Larry King earlier this week, and she explained that she’s not proud of her surgery but she had things she wanted to change. Her face looks better to me now than in the grainy photographs she put up on Twitter after the surgery. It probably “settled” into the surgery and she’s no longer swollen. She has crow’s feet, but still looks strange and artificial, though, when compared to how she looked before. On Larry King Fonda kind of played down her surgery as if it wasn’t a big deal. At least she’s still admitting to it and isn’t acting as if her unnaturally smooth tight look is due to some nonexistent genetic miracle.
Jane Fonda “caved” in to getting plastic surgery after vowing in 2000 she would not get any more work done, she told Larry King Monday night.
“If I was really brave, I would have not,” she said. “I vowed I wouldn’t–I did, and I don’t feel proud of it.”
Fonda, 72, has been upfront about the procedures she had done on her jawline and eye bags in February. She told Larry King she purposely left some of her wrinkles in place.
“I like my crow’s feet and I like my little laugh lines,” she said. “It was just the little jowls away, that’s all.
“I didn’t want to lie about it. I’m writing a book about getting older, so I had to admit it. I feel so good. I’m so happy.”
[From Huffington Post]
I like how Fonda explained it, “I feel so good, I’m so happy. I didn’t want to look kind of tired and jowly anymore.” She also said she didn’t “do a lot. I don’t look weird.” She doesn’t look that weird, but it’s not like you can’t tell she had something done. I’m kind of torn about this. On one hand I’m for plastic surgery and think that it’s a personal choice. Not everyone who does it is an insecure wreck like Heidi Montag who only sees minor barely noticeable flaws. Not everyone ends up looking like a warped wax version of themselves. On the other hand when older outspoken feminists like Fonda get work done and then act like it’s no biggie it makes me feel crappy inside, like I’ll have to make those kind of decisions in 40 years too.
Also Fonda after – not a flattering pic
I’m sorry, I think she looked better before! She looked so pretty for her age, without that cat-going-through-a-picket-fence look she has now. Even though she still has crows feet, she just looks pulled and uncomfortable. đ
I think the top pic is a bit odd-looking because the proportion of lines around the eyes to no lines on the rest of her face is just off. However, in the Larry King interview, I think she looks fabulous. Still like ‘herself.’ And the fact that she’s not hiding it is refreshing to say the least. That being said, don’t do any more Jane! You are one procedure away from one too many.
She actually looks older with the surgery đ and also, quite villainous looking. Her soft features have disappeared. She looks like a bitchy Mary Tyler Moore.
For some reason, I’m not being allowed to edit. Edit: She looks like a bitchy version of Mary Tyler Moore.
The top two photos are horrible – she looks werid. The bottom two are ok – even good, IMO. However, I saw her on TV, too, and she did look fabulous. I think on TV they use lighting and other techniques to soften the features – especially of older woman who are still in the spotlight (think Diane Sawyer.) So, maybe they did that with Jane, which would be why she looks better on TV than in these pics.
In the one photo, she looks like Carol Burnett.
Wow, so THIS is what Hanoi Jane is not proud of? And people wonder why one of my greatest wishes in this life is to hawk a huge, slimy loogie right into her pulled too tight b*tchface! God I loathe her!
Why is Larry acting like such an asshole to her? He’s being very rude. I think it’s cool that she would admit to having surgery and also that the lighting in the studio would make her look better.
WIGS. Great GREAT comment. How is it she’s still around. I would like to throat chop her ugly ass
She’s morphed into Carol Burnett. The surgery was a big mistake.
I totally agree – she looks like Carol Burnett and NOT Jane Fonda. Too bad – I always thought she was aging perfectly….
If you want to see a stunning looking female actor, see Raquel Welch.
Holy cow, Raquel looks incredible at 69. I saw her last week on the Joy Behar/CNN and she looked maybe 40.
Whatever she has done to maintain her skin, is worth every dime she has spent on it. She looked flawless.
@Hautie
I saw Rachel too and wondered what she uses or does, she looks amazing and doesnt have that “i had a facelift’ look to her either.
as for Jane, kudos to her for being honest and upfront about it tho, at least she doesnt deny it like the rest do. I am surprised at her eye work tho, not sure it looks better.
Seems to me she has a LOT of things to not be proud of. She just disgusts me.
I’d say the short haircut’s not doing her any favors. The rest would look better with some hair length. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – supershort hair makes women look either butch, plain, or old.
NOT PROUD OF THIS! VOMIT. She is a horrible person with a lot of things she should be not proud of and she should apologize.
late night wigs, grow up and come into the 21st century. She has had actual vietnam vets spit on her and has just let it go. She’s apologized and been sincere about it. Unless you are perfect, you need to let this go.
I agree gg, I think the hair is the biggest problem. She should just let it grow and go back to blonde.
Raven-
Um, no I won’t just let it go. If you really believe this horrid woman is actually sorry for anything she’s done, you haven’t been paying attention. HER ACTIONS GOT PEOPLE TORTURED AND KILLED. If one of those tortured and killed was a family member of yours, how forgiving would you be? Would you extend the same forgiveness to George W. Bush, or do you only forgive those you agree with? I will never forgive her nor will I forget what she has done. Also, I have never claimed to be perfect but I am not going around getting people killed and tortured just because I wanted to be cutesy and “rebellious” and make a name for myself/rebel against Daddy. So basically, F*CK JANE FONDA, that b*tch can eat a bag of dicks, the old horsefaced twat.
Oh, and if vets want to spit on her, what CAN she do? She deserves it. I will spit on her too if I get the chance. Her getting spit on is nothing compared to what happened to those poor men she turned in to the Viet Cong for trying to get messages to their families! Spit is WAY too good for her, IMO.
I met her about 5 years ago and she looked beautiful in person. I don’t care if she had surgery, but I liked her hair so much better before, lighter and longer. That short darker ‘do doesn’t work on her, it’s way harsh.
I think the question isn’t whether or not she looks better, it is why did she feel so pressured to get the surgery done. That is a very sad commentary on age and beauty in our culture.
@ Wigs: Lighten up, Francis.
Hell I didn’t think she was72 to start with so she couldn’t just skipped the surgery if you ask me!!!!! Now you can really tell she has crows feet!! She still looks great cuz I know I won’t look that good at 72!!!
At least she’s more honest than most celebs about surgery/botox/fillers.
Jane was once an incredibly beautiful woman who remained sexy into middle-age. It’s understandable why a feminist feels the pain of losing youthful beauty like any other woman. I respect Jane for being honest and not vainly insisting that she owes her looks solely to genes and lifestyle. If celebs don’t want to talk about plastic surgery, then just tell inquiring minds to MYOB, rather than lying about it.
GO WIGS! And KK, too. PREACH IT!
Ignore the idiots & know that, hopefully, you’ve taught them something.
Wow, she really looked so much more beautiful before. One of the after photos she looks like Carol Burnett more than JF.
@wigs- I don’t particularly like her either, but I’m pretty sure that story was debunked. Not saying she wasn’t a biotch about Vietnam, but I don’t think she actually got anyone killed.
Carol Barnette! I just loved your variety show!
@wigs – that part of the story about the torturing and killing is urban legend. It NEVER HAPPENED. I’m married to a Marine, and I found the photos of her on the anti-aircraft gun to be in horribly poor judgment and misguided political hubris.
But get the facts straight…Jane Fonda did NOT betray American servicemen at a POW camp, and she didn’t contribute to anyone’s torture. She’d be in jail or dead if she had. C’mon. Common sense. Go to snopes.com or google and read the facts.
What a joy to find such clear tikhinng. Thanks for posting!
