It’s been a month since the Jesse James scandal broke and while there was speculation that Sandra Bullock might suffer some kind of backlash for being married to such a racist cheating bastard, we haven’t heard much about that. The story still gets some press when a new mistress gives details, but when compared to the Tiger debacle it’s just not as scandalous, apart from the fact that the guy was a racist gay basher. The tabloids aren’t covering this scandal as much, but there are a couple of stories this week that focus on Sandra and how she’s coping.
US Weekly also very delicately asks the question “what did she know?,” which is what a lot of us online have been asking all along. I don’t think I’ve seen a tabloid ever question Sandra’s involvement with Jesse, given what’s been reported about his character. US is going there, but they’re doing it in a way that gives her the benefit of the doubt and says that she probably didn’t know. After all, he was cheating on her with a long line of skanks for years. Here’s part of US’s report:
1. How did Jesse Fool Her?
“He became a whole different person when they were together,” a former West Coast Choppers staffer tells Us. “He could really separate the cheating self from the married self.” Not surprisingly, the in-demand movie star and the blue-collar bike shop owner (and reality TV vet) also spent much time apart. “They had completely separate lives,” one pal says. “Whenever I saw her at a showbiz event without him, Sandra would say that it wasn’t Jesse’s kind of thing.” Not that she was hurt about it: “She would glow just at the mention of Jesse’s name.”With that kind of unwavering love and trust, souces say she was completely unsuspecting of his clandestine affairs. “She was really duped,” a Bullock pal says. “She knew she was marrying a bad boy – but thought she had reformed him into a wonderful man. She didn’t know he had a double life.”
In fact, ex-staffers at James’ bike shop tell US that even though their boss’ infidelity was an open secret (he even bedded one mistress in his office [ed note: one?!] ), Bullock was in the dark. Says a former employee: “I doubt she was aware of anything.”
[From US Weekly, print edition, April 26, 2010]
One of you commented that you saw Jesse on Celebrity Apprentice and that he seemed like a decent, soft-spoken guy. Just look at how Sandra gushed about Jesse – she loved him and while she may have know that he was racist she probably didn’t know the extent of it and overlooked it because she loved it. I believe it that the guy presented one face to Sandra and another one to his coworkers, friends, and mistresses.
Us poses more questions in the article: “Why hasn’t she filed for divorce yet?,” “Who is caring for Sunny?,” and “How is she doing?” As to why she hasn’t filed for divorce, US mentions Sandra’s three step children with James and says she may also be reluctant to leave because “it takes a lot for her to walk away.” They expect that she’s doing that, though, considering that she’s been living separately. For the second question, US says that there’s no evidence that Sandra is caring for Sunny despite reports that she’s watching the girl and her two older half siblings. They report that “sources say Bullock and Sunny are in constant communication via Skype.” And on how she’s doing, US quotes a source who says “She is devastated but being methodical and trying to make the right decision about what to do next.”
Sandra will reportedly grant her first post scandal interview as a guest on her friend George Lopez’s TBS talk show, but it won’t be until November, when Conan O’Brien’s new show launches. Conan’s show will air in the time slot right before Lopez.
one of the things i hate about cheating, is how everyone cover up for the cheater, you would think someone in the know would have warn Sandy
Did any of these tabloids ask that question of Elin, Tiger’s wife, with his boatload of trashy women? Jim Carrey does and people flog him yet US Weekly can do this to Sandra and it’s okay? Why the special treatment? Because Elin’s not an Oscar Winner?
The family that hates together stays together!
God, please let her divorce this man! She has been so smart to stay out of the public eye, which would only have inflamed the situation. I think the Tiger Woods scandal may have been worse because he portrayed himself as someone completely different to the public, while the public knew Jesse James was a “bad boy.” Of course, rumors of Wood’s wife, Elin, beating him with a golf club got everybody riled up and talking…..not that I am for violence but these boys need a good ass kicking…they’re behaviors is tragic and sad. Who knows if Elin or Sandra caught some disease from them.
OK I am not defending Jesse at all I think he is a bad bad person, but…
I don’t think he is racist. He did that doc. with Kid Rock and he was saying how he gets hate mail from white supremacists because he would use black and latino models on his bikes. So he would send them a subscription to a black p*rn mag Chocolate something or other.
My husband and I watched this a while back and he reminded me of it yesterday when I brought up this very subject – what did she know.
I still think is is a pig to beat all pigs.
I don’t think she knew a single thing. They spent a lot of time apart, but she trusted him. She’s a smart lady, and if he had ever slipped up or left a clue about his infidelity, I think she would’ve left the bastard.
@ bite me:
It’s one of those universal truths: the wife is always the last to know.
I don’t know Dorothy, I get your point, but that doesn’t convince me much. That’s all about objectifying women, not seeing all humans as equal regardless of race, I think it’s possible to do what he did and still be racist. But I don’t know.
@Bonnie – Jim Carrey got backlash because he said Elin must have been a “willing participant” in her husband’s cheating. US Weekly is saying “what did Sandra know? Not much”. Different, IMO. If US had said Sandra must have been a willing participant, they’d been getting the same backlash Jim did.
I agree with Jim Carrey and glad he said what he said. I think beautiful white blonde blue-eyed Elin was all part of Tiger’s handlers in helping him stay marketable to the elite rich white people who watch golf are part of the money manager Accenture, etc.
If the world knew he was a big douche and single he wouldn’t have been as popular.
For all we know, at the end of this scandal the article titles could end up being “How Sandra Bullock fooled everyone.” Nothing surprises me much anymore with these type of thing.
And Jim Carey got heat for his Elin statement but I agree with him. We’ll never know either way. But ole Jimbo had a valid point.
what about the nazi stuff (in his office, etc) she didn’t see that either?
@ bite me:
I totally agree with your statement. I think that has to be part of the feeling of betrayal. Who knew and why didn’t they tell me???
My husband’s then-wife was sleeping her way through their home town while he was working 2 jobs just so she could stay home all day with their kids. She used to bring their 2 kids in her truck while she went and met up with all sorts of guys. After they divorced, everyone in town kept telling him, “Oh, everybody in town knew about that for a long time”, etc. But not one of his ‘friends’ or neighbors ever said anything. (Maybe they were being pleasured, as well?) Where were they when he needed to know these things? It was definitely where his sense of betrayal came (after, of course, the wife’s escapades.)
Sandra must look at all of their mutual acquaintances and wonder which ones knew? Would you say anything? I sure would! Blessings to Sandra…
@Bonnie, good point. Sandra is Teflon-coated, thus the protective defense of her (and let’s face it, women are just not that invested in Elin or Tiger).
Come on, SB’s 45, she’s been in Hollywood for 20+ years, she’s a lot savvier than we’d all like to think. We call her smart, but then we overlook how utterly stupid she was to marry this man. She may have one enormous and historic blind spot where “bad boys” are concerned (a friend dated her in high school and said she had a weakness for them), but at what point is someone expected to set aside childish things and make wise decisions? I’ll bet her next movie salary she, on some level, knew he wasn’t being faithful to her.
For me, after being cheated on by my LONG term partner, the hardest part was after the shock, when all the little details (or flags) that I over looked started to visit me in memory. Realizing, through those little drifts of memory, that my “friends” some that we MINE and became ours and some that were hers and became OURS knew. They knew. Suddenly I not only lost my partner, but a lot of friendships.
I don’t think Jesse James fooled Sandra Bullock anymore than Bobby Brown did Whitney Houston. Both women had a polished , good-girl image, may be they are may be they aren’t we don’t know. But if they are, it doesn’t mean they cannot be attracted to sc*m. Opposite attracts? No? As it turned out, Whitney was just as bad, if not worst than Bobby. Hopefully, the same will NOT be told about Sandra but time will tell! Good girl or not, she has my symphaty. That’s a LOT to deal with!!!
@ Dorothy — I watched Motorcycle Mania 3: Jessie James, with Kid Rock, etc. just yesterday. I found it creepily prophetic that out of the blue he starts defending himself about racism. It rang off key to me, bigtime. The phrase, “methinks the [man] doth protest too much”, meaning, he’s just doing damage control before the $hit hits the fan on his condoning nazi chicks, namely, Clapshell McRacist, later on. He also shows with pride his bike he’s working on and brags he got the tooling machine from the same factory that made the Bloody Red Baron’s plane, has on a German shirt with the spike helmet and German cross on it while he’s talking about how “cool” the Germans are. I’m just saying, that is a really big red flag. Another portion of the show shows how he and Janine had just gotten married (prematurely), tattoed her name on his hand (prematurely), and gotten pregant in less than a year. Stupid. And they fought the entire time. Janine was arrested for domestic assault by Jessie, and the way they interacted was very violent to me. Jessie also goes on to say he hates everybody in his family, nobody understands him, and he doesn’t give a $hit about anybody else. Just displays really bad character traits. I do think he fooled Sandra.
@ DoMaJoReMcGee – Nobody but nobody wants to ever get in the middle of someone with power getting caught by their wife for 4orking around. Nobody. Which is a shame, really.
And it was made in 2004!
I don’t think Sandra owes any of us a statement on her views, what she did & did not know, etc. Why should she make a statement. I’m sure she thinks there’s way too much out there now.
@ poster #12
I once told my best friend that I saw her then boyfriend at the drive-in with another chick. After he showed up at my door with a shotgun, I learned to keep my mouth shut. I was young (18) and it was another one of those live and learn situations.
I haven’t liked this guy since his first show was on – one of his dogs killed another of his dogs, and he was almost proud of her, it seemed. Very nonchalant, anyway. That gave me the creeps about him. Plus, he dumped his first wife for a porn star, then did the same to hook up with SB. He’s a jerk.
Regarding telling the wife her husband’s cheating, a female friend might, a male friend of the husband will NEVER do that.
He seems to like making a lot of noise and scaring people – he said one of his goals in what makes a successful bike is making other people on the road jump or flinch with all the racket and speed as he blasts by them. He seems to have a hair trigger with a high threshold for danger to himself and others. Glad Sandra is leaving.
Men and women play the “bait and switch” game all the time in order to lure someone into a relationship with them. I know because it has been done to me and as long as someone is putting their best foot forward, why would you suspect that they’re not being sincere? When you’re in love, unless someone drags you by the arm and shows you actual proof of your beloved’s indiscretions, you’re not actively looking for the worst. In spite of his background, Sandra Bullock trusted Jesse James because she loved him and he probably was a very good companion when they did spend quality time together. Realistically, this is why so many people both men and women don’t divorce cheating spouses because when they are together, the adulterer knows how to “pour on the charm” and make them feel special.
Anyone heard of DENIAL? It is a very strong defense mechanism, the purpose of which is to protect ourselves about any incoming conflicting information we are not ready to accept. If some friend attempted to tell SB about his infidelities (from what I have read about SB and what many women often do) she would have cut that person out of her life out of loyalty to her husband. Women have been doing this for years that’s why some of us have learned to mind our own business! You have to be receptive to the information first otherwise you kill the messenger.
There are only two choices:
1. If she didn’t know he was a racist – she’s extremely stupid.
2. if she knew and stayed she is also a racist.
Bonus point: maybe she is the one teaching him the ways of the German racists.
True love is great.
It’s Saturday night, aka, “date night” and she slips on a Eva Braun blond wig and he slips on the neatly pressed Hitler uniform and then they indulge in glorious Nazi fun, with like minded friends.
To all you people who say Elin ‘knew’…
If she knew, why did she (alledgedly) scream at a mistress and (alledgedly) go after him with a gold club? Those are not the actions of a woman who is fine with whatever her husband does because they have an ‘arrangement’, those are the actions of a woman who loves her husband, and he just broke her heart.
I hate it when people go after the cheated-on person and somehow make the cheater less guilty because their victim ‘must have known’ and the implication is that they implicitly agreed to it so therefore can’t complain.
If you love somebody, you don’t want to believe something bad about them, and your love will write off small suspicions for a long time. Add to that a partner who will usually do anything to convince you that you are being paranoid, and in this case other people confirming their story and making you feel like you’re imagining things, and you don’t know WHAT to believe.
Of course it’s easy for outsiders to put things together in hindsight.
So sad. I have a fear that Sandy will come out of this bitter and will never trust a man again which is sad. 🙁
Anne dV, I agree.
It’s easy to hide things if you really want to. There is no way Sandra ‘must’ have known, and she doesn’t have to be stupid for not knowing. What about wives of serial killers? Love usually includes trust and faith.
Don’t blame the victim.
It’s called: “She turned a blind eye, because she was dating the socially maladjusted descendant of a train robber and ex husband to a porn actress… DUH”
Dude, I don’t think he did. I think they were just outed at an inconvenient time. There is no way in hell she could not have known, but hey, not everyone’s a friggin mormon and people need to just calm down. They’re consenting adults, let’s all move on.
Saying Sandra was a complicit nazi lover is way too inflammatory to visit on a woman like this where there is NO PROOF WHATSOEVER.
There is also no proof I’ve seen that even Janine was racist.
Shame on those saying that.
